I AM SO HAPPY. THE BLOG IS BACK. I can't believe Project Walk is almost over. The time went by so fast. I know Michael is frustrated because he wanted to be so much further along than he is. He has made progress though. He is loosening up (not as loose as he wants to be) and we have been able to decrease his medication. Yesterday, they put Michael on the spin bike and assisted him with pedaling. He did well but was very frustrated that he could not pedal himself. All in time. Today he is getting a massage at project walk. I hope it helps him.

We went out to dinner last night and asked the waitress if they had a table that the wheelchair would fit under. She said sure. Of course, when we got to the table he didn't fit. He gets so upset because everything is a hassle when you are in a wheelchair. That is why he has to work hard to get out of it. We almost left the restaurant but came up with the idea to take him out of the wheelchair and put him in a regular chair. It worked great and he was happy to be part of the table with everyone else.

Please blog. We have been going through withdrawal.

Omg!! Im glad that the blogs are back to i was getting so mad i thought it was something with my computer.
Bliss family: Mike and all of you are in mine and my families prayers, I have handed out the flyers for Sunday like crazy and I have a bunch of people coming also. Have a safe trip back to Rochester. And Im glad to hear things are going well.

So glad the blog is back. Mike you just keep working hard and you will reach your goals!!

The article that Mark Hare did was so awesome. And of course they included a super cute picture of you!! Well every picture of you is super cute!! : )

Real Nice!!!! I find out that my mother bought a car today from a blog going to California!!! She couldn't call me??? Well you guys have had a wonderful experience and I know you are bringing it all home so everyone will learn and be able to help. The Pool is looking so much better. Spent the day with Gramma Joy. I love the dogs. But they did get into a fight and Gracey BIT Glorys ear. OH GOD, Gramma Joy was yelling. Gracey went into her bed and then later she was outside hanging her head. They are so funny. Can't wait to see you all and we will have to get together for a welcome home, end of the summer Party. Well take care and hugs and kissess to you all, Patti (mom) xoxo

Finally the blogs are back! We are so sad that Michael is frustrated. You have come so far, and we have all learned so much. You are the one who keeps us all upbeat. You need to take it one day at a time. We will all work so hard with you when you get home. Remember all the people who are here for you. We all BELIEVE! I forgot to tell everyone that Michael has been eating with a fork and spoon without the red foam around it. He has also graduated to a regular toothbrush. These are big accomplishments that we often forget to mention. Small steps towards our final goal.

He also had a great deep tissue massage tonight. The massage therapist was sweating when he worked on Michael. He said he has never had anyone so tight. You could hear popping when he massaged Michael's legs. We need to find a massage therapist at home that specializes in "Ralphy" (spelling) massage. If anyone knows anyone, please let us know.

It's me again. The best thing that has happened to me in weeks, is talking to Josh, Mike, and Kelsey. I wish i could tape the noise of your room. It sounded like you had whole football team in there. It sounds like such fun, in spite of the work that everyone is doing to help Michael reach his goal.

Oh Josh, it was so good to hear your voice. Even though I never see you, I miss you a whole lot. You are my Golden Grandchild. I hope in these 3 weeks you all have been able to have fun doing other things. Is it true, Big Mike, that you alone have gone to a nude beach. Such selfishness - tsk, tsk, tsk. And those poor young boys just aching to go. Well, so be it. With age comes priviledge.

I hope you have a nice ride home. It will be hard to leave the therapists behind. But you can tell them that you and your entourage will be coming back soon. You are going to need time at home to practise all that you have.

By the way, Cherri, Patti and I know a therapist who might fit the bill, or at least, he may know someone who does what Mike needs. Talk to Patti.

Was it Kelsey who said that I wrote stories on the blogs??? You see Kelsey, no one allows me to speak in real life, so I get all that I can on paper. I know you won't believe it, but I am a shy withdrawn person. Ask Joshua. OK, I am getting tired tonight and I am going to sit an watch HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. I have only seen it a dozen times.

One more thing. The article that Mark Hare wrote was wonderful. Maybe you can get him to blog also.

Cher - I thought maybe you were talking about Reiki when you mentioned the massage call Ralphie, but thanks to Kellie for clearing that up. Reiki may not be a bad idea either. It is a type of massage that generates heat in the muscles. We have a lady who has been following Mike's story coming to the fundraiser on Sunday who specializes in alternative therapies. She is a Certified Nurse Practitioner and Reiki Master Teacher. She e-mailed me several times and is interested in what she can do for you.
Can't wait to meet Frandma Ger, the Fuzins, and all the other wonderful people that love Mike Bliss. Have a great day!!!

i SO missed the blog. and WOW. i just saw the chips for bliss page - i usually just always go right to the blogs - and omg - i can't believe how cool this event is going to be. i am so impressed. it looks amzaing - you should all be so so proud of yourselves who worked on this - way to go :)

and michael, gosh, i hate to read that you get frustrated - altho we all know "that's life". sucks. then come the good times and you can hang on for 5 more minutes. never give up! "things dont come to stay, they come to pass"

We met another family here yesterday that is here with their 17 year old son Cameron. Cameron was injured April 22, 2008 exactly a month after Michael when he collided with an opponent playing high school lacrosse. It was nice to be able to tell her and show her the progress that Michael has made being a month ahead of Cameron. His injury is very similar to Michael's. It is comforting to talk to people faced with the same challenges and goals. We also saw Jamie again yesterday. He said a prayer for Michael again. I think it was April who asked if we knew Jamie was a pastor before we met him. We didn't know when we first met him. Fant Nik researched and found out he was a pastor,what church he worked at and how to contact him.

I'm sorry to say that Brittany and i will not be able to make it to "Chips for Bliss" on Sunday as we will be on an airplane flying back from Wyoming. We had company from out of town all week with a lot of late nights and early mornngs, so today was the first chance I had to get on the blog.  I've been feeling frustrated all week at not being able to check in.  I thought it would take me all day to catch up on reading all the blogs, but found out it's been down. Too bad we couldn't make 1000 blogs, but at least it's back up.
  I have to read all the blogs, because I'm afraid I'l miss something important.  One minute I'm laughing out loud, the next minute I have tears in my eyes. These blogs(ers) are just the greatest.

Michael, you have come so far.  I know it doesn't seem that way to you, but you have.  I am a person who has very little patience (unfortunately), so I can imagine a little bit of how you must feel.  Just take a deep breath and keep working hard.  You will meet your goal, I just know it.

I am so looking forward to tomorrow and meeting all the fants, fuzins, frandmas, and all the other bloggers.  But, it sounds like there will be such a huge crowd there (which is the whole point of the day and a good thing) that I might not get that chance.  I wish I didn't live so far out so I could contribute some time and effort into your fundraisers. For those of you in the Rochester area who don't know me, I live out in Newark in Wayne County.  Yeah, I'm a 315'er.  But, I was born and brought up in Roch., so I'm not a true 315'er.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Sorry that I have not been blogging but my computer has been on the fritz. My mom called me today to see if I fell off the face of the earth...I said "who is this?" I spent several hours on the phone last night with time warner to correct the situation - and here I am. I see that Fant KittyKim is still doing ever so exciting things. I wonder what it is like to be in her brain...Fant Nikki is camping at Darien Lake - that isn't real camping - there is an amusement park right there. She is lame. I had to go and feed Jeter (her cat)today - and I had to bring the food. What kind of deal is that. This is what she said to me, "you will drive to my house and feed my cat and you will bring some food". Who does she think she's talking to? I did it though cause I feel sorry for the cat. He told me today that he wanted to come and live with me - that he has had enough of kids pulling him and sitting on him and dressing him up in doll clothes. I poured him a gin and juice and put it in his bowl - he'll be fine.

I hope you enjoyed your day today. We had alot of fun. The bird almost riped my hand off when i went to pet him. I thought the whole event was a tremendous success. I was talking with your mom and dad and they said that San Diego was very encouraging, thats great! Mike, have you been watching Mike Phelps smash Olympic records? You can see how the whole nation loves greatness and heroes. I dont think there wasnt one American not glued to their tvs to watch him win his 8th gold. Mike, you are our own Mike Phelps. You inspire us to give a little more, go the extra mile, and push when we have nothing left! What you are doing and are about to do is better than any amount of gold medals, i truly am witnessing greatness. I have said this before and I will say it again, "YOU WILL WALK AGAIN!" Keep your eyes on the prize and i will be watching when you win that gold medal. I love u and keep inspiring all of us.

What a great event Chips for Bliss was. We think everyone who volunteered did a great job. It was so well organized and I know that so many people put a lot of hard work into the event. Michael and our entire family want to thank all of the people who came to show their support and helped raise money for Michael to ensure he has the best therapy possible to meet his goals. Last night bought him more time at Project Walk. All of the money raised will be used to help Michael recover. We could never send him to Project Walk without the support from our community. We are very fortunate to live in Rochester. I never realized before what a great place Rochester is to live.

hi there michael - i was so glad i got to meet you and say hello in person yesterday. i think you are one amazing guy. you've been thru so much but you've maintained such a positive energy. i'm very proud of you :)

Sorry, I missed a day, sometimes I just can't think of anything interesting to say (like when has that stopped me before!) Anyways, when I left your house, I went home and attempted to make dinner. Here's a hot tip for you when you're out on your own and making yourself something to eat - when you put butter in a pan, it will melt so much faster if you turn the burner on. Similarly, cookies and brownies also bake much faster when the oven is actually on. Just a little FYI to make your life easier when you have to cook for yourself. I hope you noticed that Fant Karin did not mention if she was bringing you anything from Florida - just thought I'd point that out. I'm gonna be on the lookout for a "My Fant went to Florida and all I got was this T-shirt", but I'm not sure if they make those or not. How the heck are you kid?! I hope you had a great Tuesday.

So I had an interview today at RIT. I felt like I answered their questions well but then at the end of the interview this one woman said, "oh I have a writing assignment for you, in one or two pages tell me how your skills will transfer to this position" I was thinking HELLO isn't this what we have been talking about for the last half hour. Hope today is better than yesterday. You know - I've been praying for you and now it's your turn to pray for me. The Fants are coming, the Fants are coming! They will be here in FL from Mon. till Thurs. You know what they can be like when they get together, so you understand why I need prayers, but what you don't know is that their main mission is usually to see which one can embarass me the most. Fant Kim will rearrange displays in Dept. store and model homes. If you take them to the grocery store they get into the carts and push each other - you get the idea. I'm just saying - pray for me. If they ever want to take you on a road trip, just know that I tried to warn you.

I don't know what my mother is talking about, we have never done any of those things. One thing I will confess to however, is a time when we were at Dairy Queen (love it) and she was trying to put my money back in my pocket because she wanted to pay (like we're really going to let that happen) and I screamed, "This is not my mother", like they tell little kids to do if someone is trying to kidnap them. She has never tried to give me back my money again. I guess you could pray for her anyways, now we're going to have do something to embarrass her. Maybe we can surprise her and show up at her work. Good Morning Mike;
Hope you got your Klondike bars, we had no idea you liked those or we would have hooked you up before we left. If you haven't gotten them yet, let us know and we'll send the funcles over so fast with them. Thought I'd give you a recap of Day 1 on vacation with my sisters. First of all, I had to sit in the middle on the plane. Fant Karin decided she would also require my leg room in addition to hers and Fant Nik (let's call her Dramamine girl) has to lay all over you cause she's more dopey than usual. Tnen Fant Karin turned Fant Nik's overhead air vent to full blast, which caused Fant Nik to scream, thinking she was being sucked out of the plane. While waiting for our luggage, got to watch my sisters fight over who was going to stand next to Hottie Soldier Guy, who I'm pretty sure heard them say, "Hey, I wanna stand next to Hottie Soldier!" (Everyone pray for Sgt. Fargo - he's being deployed to Afghanistan) We stopped for lunch at Checkers (yummy) and Fant Nik ate half of my Bacon Cheddar Ranch fries cuz they were ever so much better than the plain fries she ordered. I didn't get the milkshake I ordered, so had to rely on the kindness of my sisters to share their Cokes. Fant Nik's pretty good at sharing cuz she has those 5 kids who never let her finish anything herself, but Fant Karin says "Hey, that's mine!" Again, had to sit in the middle in the car on the way home, where in their mature manner, they made faces and noises at me, which they denied of course. So, sitting on the couch, minding my own business, they both decide to come over and put their grimy feet on me (they know I hate feet). So, I scratched Fant Nik, not Fant Karin. I can outrun Fant Nik, but Fant Karin could not only catch me, but also kill me. Then Fant Nik had to be a big crybaby and tattle tale to our mom. Conversation went like this.
Fant Nik: Mom, Kim scratched my foot.
Fant Kim: She put her foot on me.
Mom: When will you girls ever stop this?
Fant Karin: We'll still be doing this when we're 80.
Mom: Thank God, I'll be dead by then.
Fant Karin: Doesn't matter, you'll still be watching us.
Mom walks away, shaking her head, muttering "Why me?"
After that, we took naps since we were up at 4:45 to catch our flight. Mommy made us delicious chicken and dumplings for supper and then we just watched TV and went nite nite. Fant Karin, the hog, always gets her own room and me and Fant Nik have to share a bed, where we say "Don't you dare come on my side and touch me while I'm sleeping." And so ends Day 1 in Florida. GoodMorning! I went to your house yesterday with Anna & Sara i felt very welcomed so thank you for that, your family is very very niice and like them alot. So i gotta say seeing you spilts me two ways, one half makes me wannna cry so bad and i always get that feeling in my throat but i always hold it in and the other half makes me so happy to see that you are making porgress and your doing good smiling,laughing & joking. Last night when i gave you a hug good bye to tell you the truth i did'nt want to let go, for only meeting you twice you mean alot too me mike. Steve and I, were visiting Michael today.We stretched alittle bit,then we all helped Michael stand up !!!!!!! it was amazing....after Michael was standing,we set him up at the end of the table with his feet on the floor.We were all watching Court T.V.All of a sudden Michael rolls to the left and very softly with no sound.....He then rolls on the floor.And the next thing i hear is my brother say "Michael, what did you do that For" We all looked at each other,then finally went over to Michael to see if he was o.k. and tells us "oh my god" i think i dosed off alittle bit.......Soooooooo, we could never leave Michael sitting at the end of the table,even with 4 adults sitting in the same room with him.Beware everyone,it might happen again.....It was scary,but it was weird how he rolled over on the floor,and didnt even make a sound.Another crazy day at the 'Bliss's house'Im glad you enjoyed your 'Klondike Bars' they will be refreshing for when you get home from rehab.Stay strong,no more "roll overs" Im sure ill be over tomorrow some time.love you.xoxoxoxoxoxo

To all Bloggers, i just got a very happy phone call from Michael, on his way home from rehab.He stood up on the paralell bars,with some assistance,then they let go and he took 2 steps by his self....Please keep praying every night,and never stop BELIEVIN !!!!!!!!! he wants me to ask if anyone has or knows someone if they have paralell bars he could purchace, we need to add this to his gym.Let us know........

Mike, just updated myself on the last couple days of blogs. I, like everyone else, am ecstatic about your accomplishment on the parallel bars. I told Raina and she said, yippee can we go see Michael? So one of these days we're going to stop by for a visit so she can meet you. I also think that we need to look into stocking your freezer with Klondike bars. Maybe that was the additional strength you needed, ice cream solves everything! Keep up the good work Michael. You are such an inspiration to so many people.

Shout out to Barbara Sullivan: My girlfriend has been watching Tae Kwon Do (no clue how to spell that) in the Olympics. Little did I know that was an Olympic Sport. She too was frustrated that it wasn't televised. She found it by searching on the internet (I believe maybe even through the Olympic website) and has been watching the whole competition. So if you're really interested in watching the synchronized swimming you might be able to catch it that way. I'm not sure how much longer the links will be up seeing as how tomorrow is the closing ceremony but you never know, it's worth a shot! By the way, I love reading your blogs, they are always so uplifting and sincere.

gotta tell you, love the blog... it's always got something good going on - i hope you realize michael how many people who you are helping. i'm for sure one of them!

The doctors at the Dumb House just can't get the meds right and told us that we have to walk on eggshells around her and make her feel important, wanted and needed until they get the "cocktail" just right. I just locked myself in the computer room...fant nik is trying to get it in. Fant Nik is wearing a baby blue "more cowbell" t-shirt, pink sweat capris, and her hair is in a clip on the top of her head. Noone in this residence wants to match that. I'm glad that I have my own room here.

Hi Everyone, Well we arrived back home to Tucson safely. Had a great time and enjoyed seeing everyone. I will be flying back on Sept 2nd and hope to see all of you. I talked to PaPa and Lynn and they told me about you going to Baltimore and they plan on joining you. Hope you enjoy and get alot out of that facility. Well,the bills are paid, suitcase is packed and the lawn and plants are watered and all of my Callie's things are out where the pet-sitter can find them. Whew! Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth going away. So much to do to get ready and then coming home, putting everything away is a pain. Hopefully, it will be worth it and we won't get seasick. According to the 10 day weather forecast, it should be raining the whole time we are in Alaska. Actually, I love the rain and some of my best times have been rainy experiences. And...if it's too bad, will just stay on board and be pampered...

I think when this is all over, honey, you and your family ought to celebrate and take a long, fun, relaxing vacation somewhere very special. You all certainly deserve it!

I forgot, i have another generous gift for you from one of my clients.AMAZING !!!!!!!

We got back to the hotel room a little while ago after spending the entire day at Kennedy Krieger. Michael spent the first 2 hours being evaluated by the rehab doctor. From there he was evaluated for an hour by the OT and then a 3 hour evaluation by the PT. He was a little disappointed today because he felt like it was day one again. I had to explain to him that they have to evaluate him first to see for themselves where he is at. We were expecting it to be a large facility, but it was actually a very small area. It was quite a bit smaller than Clinton Crossings (Maybe it is true that good things come in small packages). Michael did get to meet Dr. McDonald who is the doctor that made a lot of accomplishments with Christopher Reeves. Can you believe that Dr. McDonald grew up in Chili?

We are hoping tomorrow will be more therapy than evaluations as Michael does not like to waste time in his recovery.

I forgot. They weighed Michael today and he only weighed 136 lbs. We need to fatten him up. Please help us with any suggestions of fattening foods. He has been eating a lot, but he must burn it off as fast as he eats it. I just had him crawling in the hotel room and was feeding him cookie dough ice cream along the way.

This is my first time reading your blog in a while... sorry I'm not very good at keeping up with it, I just always look forward to seeing you at Clinton Crossings and seeing your great improvements. It is so awesome that you were able to take a few steps! Congrats! I wish I could have been there to see it. Maybe we will be climbing a mountain/hill sooner than you think. I'm sorry your day was a bit too slow moving. It must be so tough to have to do the "first day" process so many times. I know that once you get into the swing of things there you will be feeling much better. You just keep going, my friend!!

I would also love to donate some lbs!!! How fabulous that would be. If I was looking to gain weight I would start my day with hot cakes from MCDons. Then for lunch I would get some mozz. sticks and french fries at Fridays. With extra BBQ sauce, of course! Then some Aunt Annie's pretzels for a snack. Dinner would be all you can eat pizza until midnight!! That would be my perfect food day!! Oh my goodness...I have issues! I need to lay off the bathwater!!! :)

I’m sorry to hear that your first day didn’t go as expected. Unfortunately, they do not know you and all the questions are necessary for them to get a feel for where you are, what they can do for you and how far you’ve come. It is so frustrating because you just want to move ahead and you feel like they are wasting precious time. Try to consider it just a stepping stone to get you where you need to be. I pray you sleep well tonight so you can show them all you’ve got tomorrow. I have to tell you that one of my very favorite fat foods is Kozy Shack rice pudding with cinnamon. We were trying to get my grandparents to gain weight last year, and we gave them carnation instant breakfast with whole milk because it was so much better tasting than Ensure. We even mixed the two of them with ice cream and made a shake out of it. Other foods for weight gain: whole grain toast and peanut butter, trail mixes with healthy nuts and dried fruits, milk and fruit juices, lean meat, fish, poultry, nuts, legumes, fruits, veggies and whole grains, protein powders, flax seed oil, psyllium powder for extra fiber. Cherri, I think we're probably just too young to remember all of these dancers that people are talking about. Were any of them on MTV? Were their names possibly Madonna or Beyonce? No, then I have no clue. Ha ha. We were probably being rocked by our mommies when those shows were on.

I have to laugh at all of the food suggestions for Michael. How funny that Sherie was the only one with HEALTHY suggestions. Jeez, who'd have thought to gain weight and eat healthy! I too immediately thought of fatty foods but it's probably best to eat the stuff that's going to help gain weight and be good for Michael at the same time. Of course the ice cream is an exception, remember my motto--Ice Cream makes everything better!

I hope your day in therapy yesterday was what you wanted it to be. You are getting stronger and stronger each week. Now we need to put some of that weight back on you. Protein, protein and a few carbs should do it. Must be you are not eating your usual share of Buffalo Chicken Pizza!! I should be able to drive next week so I will make sure you get whatever you are craving delivered right to your door!! Say "hi" to Mom and Dad and Kelsey and we will be over this weekend! Michael just finished OT and we have a 2 hour break until PT starts. Michael will probably go on the FES bike today, and we are hoping they can get him up on the parallell bars. We have seen children and adults here mostly with more severe injuries than Michael. It is sad to see toddlers going through what Michael goes through.

While they work Michael hard here, he really misses his therapists back home. He has developed a repore with them, and they both know his goals. It was difficult leaving Clinton Crossings when he had come so far that last Friday visit. He will start back there next Wednesday, since Monday is Labor day. We are glad he had the oppotunity to see what Kennedy Krieger had to offer and get different perspectives and ideas from doctors and therapists who were not familiar with Michael.

I too just read the article and watched the video. I thought oh, it's going to be sad (I cry during commercials) but of course, you're so inspiring that it was just the opposite. Did you ever know you were so uplifting? Never let that optimism you have die. If it weren't for that, your determination and hard work where would you be today? I'm so glad to hear that you look back and see how far you've come. I know you feel like you have so much farther to go but it's good to look back to see that every effort has paid off.

It made our day today to get to see you. You looked absolutely wonderful. I wish I could look that good with such little sleep ;-) Your poor mom and dad must be exhausted too. I have to tell you, my friend, that you have been blessed with a true gift. There is a sincere love and positive energy that you radiate that is so intense. To be around you is so uplifting. I am amazed at what Michael is able to do on the gym that Sheri got him. It is great exercise and is just what he needs to exercise those muscles. We are blessed with all of the people who are here for Michael. We have been enjoying the weekend with Uncle Scott, Brandon and Nicholas from Michigan. What a beautiful Labor Day weekend. Michael will be working hard. He is anxious to get back to Clinton Crossing on Wednesday to get on the parallal bars, but in the meantime he can get lots of exercise on the new gym.

Okay, today I tried my very first furniture refinishing project. I picked up an old desk at a garage sale for $5 and thought it would be so much fun to see if I could refinish it. I worked on it today from about 9:30 a.m. till 8:30 p.m.,and I will NEVER again refinish another piece of furniture. I really think the chemicals got to me and I was outside. If there is anyone out there who really enjoys stripping down furniture, then I know the chemicals must have gotten to you or you were smart enough not to try to do it all in a day. I labored all day on labor day. What a fool. I think Megan had the right idea.

I'M Back --all of you folks who missed me. I think there were 2 of you. I needed you both, thanks.

Last night, I typed my first return blog and only got so far, before it ate up my letters, and swallowed my commas and semi-colons. I have not been able to blog (weak excuse) because I was looking for a new used car. My former car drowned and then peacefully died. To me, cars are a necessary evil. They always break down, eat up gas, and get so very dirty. I don't like gas stations, pumping gas, in and out of the car, and if I can get away without washing my car, that is what I will do. A friend helped me out on the journey to find a car. I ended up with a 2006 Ford Taurus. I am satisfied. Right after Chips for Bloss, my youngest son got sick and I was with him a lot. So now I have transportation and my son is OK, so I AM REALLY BACK.

I cannnot believe the things those Fants do when they are together. I met 2 of them at Chips for Bliss. Three would have been too much for me. My heart could not have taken it.

Yes, I do remember Esther Williams and the synch swimming. It was wonderful. I feel cool just thinking about it. Also the June Taylor Dancers. Also the Carol Burnett Show, with Harvy Korman, and Tim Conway. We got together as a family on Saturay nights to laugh for a whole hour,non stop. Patti used to pretend she was Tim Conway and shuffle across the room to make us laugh. She kind of acted like him, too. Ha Ha, and I have no doubt that she could do her performance just as well today. But I really liked the Andrew Sisters. they were terrific and helped this country get through the 2nd world war.

Do you suppose that Fant Nik will really organize a synch swimming show??? I will sadly have to refuse her invitation to join.

Now, Sheri somebody, what ever is your name, don't give up on the project you have started. When you are done, you will be so proud of yourself, and you could not put a price on it. But do it in short spurts of time, and stop so you can breath once in a while. If you tire of it, THERE IS A STRIPPING PLACE IN WEBSTER ON OLD RIDGE ROAD that will do the first act for you. The rest is a piece of cake.

Now I am very proud of this Mitch person who put 75 lbs. on Mike's legs. I knew that he was going to be a genius -- so that is why I named him MITCH.

Now, Mitch, Josh, Big Mike, and Big Papa, you can plan on carrying young Mike down to the basement every nighrt so as he can get a good nights sleep, and be in top form for therapy every day.

Young Mike, I want you and 3 other people to know that MY LEGS DID NOT HURT ON MONDAY, like you all threatened they would. So Ha Ha to you!!!!!

I am so impressed by what you have accomplished, Michael. I have never seen a person as determined as you, and with that determination and your faith in God, you will grow wings on your legs. I BELIEVE. You have made so very many people believe that God does perform miracles. You have also inspired us to take the little unimportant things that we deal with every day, with a grain of salt. Take one day at a time. I myself have the habit of looking ahead too far in the future. Every day is a JOURNEY and needs to be enjoyed as its own entity. Michael is tired today. Yesterday he woke up in the morning and his hands were swollen and red. The doctor thinks it is an allergic reaction to the antibiotic he was just on. We have been giving him Benadryl. Today he woke up with lips three times the size of Angelina Jolie. I am glad he didn't have too much company today, it was not a good site. Fortunately, he took more benedryl and they went down to almost normal. He is addicted to tennis and politics these days. It seems to be never-ending to the rest of us. We have all threatened to change the channel. He has also been stumbling along with his online class. It takes him some time to type a few sentances. Keep blogging. The blogging seems to be dying down. Now that many of his friends have returned to college he needs the blogs more than ever.

Hi Mike:
That swollen lip thing sure sounds like fun. Nick has a bad reaction when he takes antibiotics - we call it lizard hands. They get all swollen with red spots. Sounds like yours, but I don't think he's ever had the lip thing, although he did get thrush on his tongue which was kinda nice too. Maybe that's something to look forward too. Funcle Joe started teaching his class at RIT tonight - I think its Basic Ophthalmic Photography, so if you're ever having trouble falling asleep, we can try and get you a video and that should put you right out. I'm just taking a break from typing and trying to come up with a legitimate reason why I can't type anymore tonight. gosh, michael, the lip thing for you. mallory & kelly were in a car accident a few years back and kelly's lips were ENORMOUS! hones to God, they were so big when i walked in the room and saw her i just about flipped out. i thought for sure that at any second they would just plain burst!! they were so big her top lip was like right under her hostrils. i was scared but there was nothing we could do. we just put cool washclothes on them.....not very pretty... :(

well, i hope things calm down for you and that you get to meet john mccain. my opinion, he would be lucky to meet you!!!!

I feel like I have to say this because I am just feeling so angry and sad today. I hate these people who did this to Michael. I hate what they did to his life and I hate what they have done to our lives. I hate that many of Michael's friends were able to return to college and Michael is frustrated taking one 3 credit online class. I hate that the people who did this to him don't show any remorse. I hate that we have to investigate, fight and beg doctors and insurance companies for everything that we need for Michael's care. I am angry that we are constantly fighting infections, stiffness and emotional pain. Most of all, when Michael is feeling down, I just don't know what to do.

I can't begin to imagine the pain that you and your family have had to endure. The fact that you are angry and sad only proves that you are human and you have feelings. You and your family have handled this horrible experience with great love and caring of Michael. The gift is that you still have your beautiful son and someday he will reach his goals. The fact that you've come this far only shows the strength and love you share in your family and with your extended family. There are so many people who love Michael and they've never even met him. You and Mike have done a great job in raising your childred. All mothers feel helpless when their children are feeling down. We think we should always be able to "make it better". You will look back at this someday and know that all of this has made you stronger as a person and a family. God loves you and so do we.

I feel horrible for you that you are going through this pain. Even the smallest hurdle our children go through, we feel for them. I can't imagine what you are going through. Thank GOD that you have the support you do. You are entitled to have angry and sad days. Michael is very blessed that he has a family like you. The time will come and those kids will get what is coming to them. Michael has made such progress and he would not be as far if it weren't for the strength of his family. I hate this saying but it is so true "Everything DOES happen for SOME reason" we just do not know it yet. Keep your faith and BELIEVE. It's ok to have days like this. good for you cheri to get that out - i have thought so many times since this happened what as a mom would i do? i know i'm not strong - i know i wouldn't want them to hurt for one second. but i would be no good to them. i would have to be strong enough to push them like you have for michael. to let nothing stop you from doing whatever needs to be done for him. and your entire family and all the friends you have and have made because of this are with you all in this.

Our day got better at OT and PT. Michael worked hard on Tricep and Bicep exercises in OT. He has gotten a lot stronger in just the last few weeks. In PT he was able to pull himself up to a standing position using the parallel bars from his wheelchair with no assistance twice. This is huge. It tires him out quickly but with time he will get stronger and more independent now that we know he can do it. He also walked the length of the parallel bars (8 feet) with assistance four times. It was nice because his brother, friends Josh and Jeremy Shoestring came to therapy today to watch him and see his progress. It is nice to end a gloomy day on a positive note.

I called while he was there and he told me you had just tied your shoe... Anita, Jessy and Justin were with me at Cheese Cake Factory and we all let out loud Hooray!!!! We got some funny looks but you know us thats just normal?! Anyways stay strong and know we all love you and truely BELIEVE.... Hi Mikey- I loved spending time with you today. Even though your not feeling too hot, you still were able to make all of us laugh- that is the magic in you Michael Warren Bliss. You can make everyone laugh around you- no matter how bad you are feeling. I loved watching you work on the total gym- you are getting stronger and stronger and working so hard! Just remember to keep working hard and don't stop believing! It has been hard for me to post a blog since I read your mom's last night. I hate the thought of what intense heartache you guys are going through. I know how mad I get at the guys who did this to you, I can only imagine how mad you must get. Just take that anger and hurt with you to rehab everyday and work at as hard as you could! I hope all of you realize how much love everyone has for you and our family. Hi Mike! Hope you are feeling better today. At least the sun is shining and that helps alot. Just wanted you all to know that you are always in our thoughts and prayers, good days and bad. Your family has endured this horrible tragedy with dignity and grace and those rotten SOB's will pay, one way or another. They have to live with themselves and hopefully not a second goes by that they don't regret that horrible night.

Michael is feeling lousy again. I sure do wish I knew what was going on with him. This just gets so frustrating. He never rode the horse today. I wish I had my healthy son back. We are looking forward to brighter days ahead.

Dearest Michael...I'm baaa-aack....I am so sorry to know that this is a 'down' time for all of you. You have all been in my thoughts and prayers everyday and I so wanted to let you know that. I know there is nothing I can say that hasn't been said already. You have come so far and I know you will never give up until you have reached your goal. And, yes, I know...you probably are saying that you CAN'T give up...but, you know, I think there are a lot of people that would have given up by now. You are one in a million and your determination and strength never cease to amaze me. Hang in there, Mike, and all of your family, the light is at the end of the tunnel...it's a long tunnel, but we can all see it coming. I have the deepest respect and love for all of you and I only hope I can live up to the example all of you have set for me.

About taking the class by computer. Can you, at some point, take testing that may warrant you to bypass some classes? Especially since you have taken so many classes already?

Thank you, Karen, for missing me! The cruise was nice...why do I feel a little disappointed? First of all, 10 days was too long since the weather did not permit anyone out on the deck until the last 2 days. The 2nd nite out, it was EXTREMELY rough with the waves hitting our window and banging against the side of the ship. Boy, that'll make you a little uneasy! Alaska was beautiful and we were lucky in that the weather was great when we were in port. Anyway, I'm glad I went and I'm glad to be home.

I'm going to ask all of you to say a prayer(s) for this man on the ship. I think he was a man...one of those horribly deformed people from burns on his face, head, arms, etc. He didn't have any hands. I am so proud of him to go on a cruise. To think he will go through life like that, not to mention the agony he had to go thru to get to this point. So many sad stories in this world!

I loved your video and article! Yes, the second picture of you, Mike, is incredible! I think it's an omen...it is God's way of showing you that Jesus is working in and through you. He definitely has a plan and has His hand on you always. BELIEVE, Michael, because He can do anything you ask as long as you BELIEVE!

And, Sherie, I refinished a hope chest a few months back...never again, but it did turn into a rewarding experience. I used an electric sander and that worked the best. Tip: DO NOT sand in the house!!!

By the way, Mike, are you coming back out? If so, I am definitely coming to see you and yours. Altho, it's going to be a while before I leave my Callie again. Spent a fortune on a pet sitter to come in twice a day and spend time with her and also my neighbor came and sat with her in the afternoons. Another reason I didn't want to be gone for so long. She has not left my side since I've been home. I have always said that no one understands about pets until they have loved one. Now, I've kind of changed that to no one understands until they have been loved BY one. So unconditional and nonjudgmental.

It's over 100 here but should be cooling down this week. So glad...sweatshirt weather in Alaska and I loved it! Can't wait for winter!!! We had a big wind out here, evidently, while I was gone...where were the Fants???...so lots of cleanup to be done outside. Just what I love coming home to.

Glad you are enjoying the political scene now. I'm already getting tired of it, but every once in a while they do come up with a new tidbit and that's interesting. Can't believe how many different ways they can come up with to say the same thing over and over. Just catching up again on the blog--been away for a week.

Cheryl, no one can ever understand what you are really going through unless they have been there. I saw my kids go through situations ( one most recently ) that made me want to throw up---I could actually feel the nausea coming on--I could picture myself falling apart--going crazy--but you know what, I thought about you and Mike and somehow I held it together. Sometimes I took it one second at a time--I wanted to cope and have strength like you-----you really helped me !! I could never even touch upon the deep, severe pain you and your family has endured--but you have all taught us ( all of us ) what it is to face adversity and trudge on. When you think about day 1 and what Mike is doing today--he has made incredible progress. He will walk and it will be a glorious day !! Remember you wanted your dining room back by Thanksgiving-----well.................

I am so sorry I haven't blogged in a while. Trust me I have not forgotten about you at all. Each day I think about you and wonder how you are doing and how you are progressing. I saw that you were sick and I really hope you are feeling better now. I am so sorry that you and your family are going through this, but something tells me that you are going to do great! My classes started up a couple of weeks ago (the reason that I haven't blogged in a while) and they are going well. This semester doesn't seem like it will be too bad. I can't believe in less than a year i will finally be a licensed (hopefully) physical therapist! I really hope that this week goes better for you and that you can reschedule horse therapy. A great day at rehab today. Michael took some great steps by himself on the parallel bars. Everyone was crying and the other therapists were giving the thumbs up. It was a good day.

I saw the video of you walking with the parallel bars. That's a great step in reaching your goal (literally). I'm so excited!! I sent it to Mike and Jenny.

Jen will be coming home next weekend and she says she will definitely stop over to see you. Mr. Gurt and I will stop over this weekend to see you. It's his birthday on Saturday. He's feeling a little down, he's turning 45. Hopefully you can cheer him up.

Good morning, Dear Mike...Well, another miracle for my calendar...Adrianne sent me the video of you taking steps and then to read that you said that was the happiest day of your life!!! Well, the happiest day SO FAR, as you are just beginning, sweetheart! You are going to have a lot of happy days in the future! When Papa and I were in Maryland at Kennedy Kreiger with you and we saw your face light up as did your Mom and Dad's when you got up on those parallel bars and I thought - we can build these, well the we, was Jim donating RES time and materials and Rick designing and building this amazing piece of equipment, one that Clinton Crossings would be proud of, with Papa at his side to the finished product tonight which they are working on as I type this. The we was truly a group effort. Right down to Lisa who has had Rick building their fireplace for three years and he never seems to get to it but this was different. To get you up on your feet everyday - everything was put on hold and hopefully this with all the other love prayers and support you have will make your dream come true and BELIEVE that it will, we do!! LOL

Hi Mike:
Thought I'd check in after I finished my lunch of pretzels and dip. I figure that covers 3 food groups (chives count as a vegetable, right?) My boys are in NYC for the Yankees game, so I was looking forward to having the bed and TV all to myself last night. I'm all settled in with my TV, book and bowl of popcorn, when I have to get up and answer the phone. My daughter is calling me from downstairs on her cell phone. "Mom, you have to come down here right now. There's a bug on my bed and I don't know what it is and you have to kill it right now!" So I have to go all the way downstairs and kill this stupid bug, which BTW, I don't know what it was either. Immediately the bed must be completely stripped, as she cannot possibly sleep in it after there was an unidentified bug there just moments ago. As annoying as this is, this is nothing compared to how her brother reacts when there is a bug in the house. Yes, my tattooed, 5 speed, V8 engine, black Mustang driving son is terrified of bugs. Of course when I kill a bug for him, I chase him around with the dead bug in the paper towel, screaming, "Gonna put it on you", while he shrieks like a little girl. It's pretty fun and almost makes walking all the way downstairs worthwhile. Anyways, that's what passes for fun in this house. Well, good luck with horsey riding today. Michael rode the horse again and his legs felt good again after. When he came home, he did some standing and took some steps on the parallel bars. We have to get him up to the shower soon as he smells like a sweaty horse.

I'm glad I got to watch you ride the horse yesterday. You're improving more and more everytime I see you. Funcle Mark was very impressed how well you did and noticed how much your legs loosened up by the end of the ride. I think we'll have to work on getting you your own horse. Maybe we can bye Lucy for you so you can ride her every day. What do you think Fant Karin?

There is never a dull moment at Fant Kim's or Fant Nikki's house. Fant Nikki stopped at our house Friday around 5:30 and couldn't believe how quiet it was. That's what happens when you become an empty nester. You only have about 13 more years to go Fant Nik. Then she asked if we wanted to come to her house that night. Hmm.... let me think about that?? Peace and quiet at my house or five kids under the age of 13????? Funkle Mark and I stayed home!!! Sorry Fant Nik, we love you and your family, but we love quiet too. I guess that's what happens when you get older and Funcle Mark just had a birthday on Saturday.

I had the chance to sit and chat with the Bliss's and Barb tonight at DiRosato's.
There was such a positive feel around that table tonight. The love and support he has is just heart warming..
I am one that doesn't get to see Mike that often, and when I sat with them tonight,it is just amazing how far he has come since that horrible day in March, and from the very first time I saw him...
I see such major major changes in the things he does.. I have not yet seen him taking steps, but can't wait until I get the chance..
It may seem like an eternity but when you look at the whole picture and the things he has regained it is truly a miracle as to what he has done is really a short time...
Keep doing what your doing Mike,and don't stop believeing... That "network" you have behind you will give you the strength and the support to get you back to where you were and from there you can continue on!!!

We are trying really hard to get a video of Michael taking steps up on Youtube, so that people can see how well he is progressing. We took a spur of the moment video tonight of him on the parallel bars (the only problem is that he is only wearing his boxers and a pair of dress shoes). We'll let you know if we are successful. He is making amazing strides. With this injury, he should not be doing this. Thank God. He is our miracle.

Hey Mike!! I miss you so much!!! I feel like THE WORST friend in the entire world right now and I know I haven't written on here in forever...but I want you to know that I think about you everyday and there is never a day that goes by that I don't think about you! My schedule is kind of sparatic this quarter and I am at school at different times everyday. I will definitely be over as soon as I can find the best time. Hi MIke ! I just wathched your video on youtube and first I have to say how good and healthy you are looking ! It is so awsome to see you taking steps on those parellel bars, the determination and hard work it must take we can only imagine,I am so proud of you watching it ! It also makes me a little proud of my husband that he has the ability to know how to makes those parellel bars and he was very happy to make them for you to help in your recovery. I am glad they are right there in your house for you to use every day, it can only speed up your recovery. Papa and Rick had a lot of fun together making them. The tables were turned around a little though, usually we feed papa but this time papa kept Rick fed every night and he even cleaned up after him if you can believe that !! It was surely a joint efert. We hope these bars get you walking even quicker ! keep up all of your hard work Mike and we can not wait to see the next video.

Good morning, dear one...yes, I agree, the fact that you just keep 'showing up' each day, says it all! You are incredible, young man! (OR, you are an incredible young man!) I can't imagine how difficult it is to keep on track and not miss one day of pushing yourself to the limit! And the same goes for your family and loved ones, to watch you have to do that every day, must be so hard on them. Your video amazes me and I love to watch your beautiful face! Nick sent me the video from yesterday and it chokes me up. And, I am so glad you and my boys got to spend the day together. I know it meant so much to them! I know they will always be there for you as you will be for them, if need be.

Well, Happy Fall! As of today! Went up to the Sierra foothills this past weekend for the day. There is a place called Apple Hill and it's open all fall season. Lots of apple farms/orchards with tons of apple 'stuff' for sale and food to eat. Lots of craft booths, too. Wineries, also. You just drive around from farm to farm and the scenery is breathtaking. The only negative, is that thousands of other people are there at the same time. But it is a wonderful place and can't believe someplace so beautiful and serene is so close at hand. It's actually about 1/2 way to Lake Tahoe and that is another gorgeous spot relatively close by. I have to say, from where I live, Tahoe is about 2 1/2 hours, the ocean about 1-1 1/2 hours, Napa Valley, less than an hour, along with San Francisco, Muir Woods, and so many other places being in close proximity. I guess it is a pretty handy place to live. However, I don't think you can beat the beauty of upstate ny and all the places to visit there. I do love fall out here, tho, better than ny as I know that the winter that follows will be a pleasant one.

Got all my pics back from my Alaska trip. Got some pretty good ones. Not too bad for one of those disposable cameras. It really is a beautiful place and the ship was fantastic! Still glad to be home!

Now, Cherie, what does the botox do for Mike's muscles/nerves. Have you tried it yet? And, yes, I was also wondering if you have contacted San Diego, altho, I'm sure you have. Isn't there something like (don't laugh) electrodes or something to loosen things up?

Well, I'm taking my neighbor out for his birthday lunch so gotta get ready. Takes me a while, you know! The older I get...

Sounds like you had a great weekend! Thank you for spending part of your Sat. with us. I know Josh was very happy his close friends were there. He did tell me though that he knew about his surprise party on Fri. night. His co-worker told him, and on purpose too. Well it turned out good anyways.

hi bliss's - i wish there was more i could say or do to help you. i just said yesterday to karen wieme how i hope every day those 3 wake up and feel like **&&. they might be out and around now, but they'll be spending their years in a state prison, with others like them. she was saying they should have to do nothing but be free enought to work so that every dime they make goes to michael. i like that idea too.

michael, we all love you and pray for you every day. you have come so far in 6 months - think back and i'm sure you'll realize what you have accomplished. i cant imagine what its like for you, but with all these prayers i can't believe in anything but that you will win this struggle. you work so hard, keep it up, its paying off.

I read your words and I feel your pain and the anger at what has happened to Michael.
The parents of those responsible must be so ashamed of their childred and themselves and wondering where they failed. These are things you will never know - because you have raised a great, loving family. You'll never be able to understand how someone could do to another person, what these animals have do to Michael, - it's not in your loving nature, and that is to your credit. You have childred that you can be very proud of - thier parents can never be proud. You can hold your head up high, knowing you have done a great job and that everyone admires you and how you have handled this. Everyone loves Michael and we support all your efforts to get Michael to full recovery. God bless all of you.

Mike, the personal trainer, was here today and we just love him. Michael is going to start following his diet advice. We were really impressed with him. Thanks Fant Nik for finding him for us.

I also want to say that I hope Karen Preston Wieme and her family are all recovering. I just heard about what Karen's mother has been going through, and I hope she recovers quickly.

Thanks to everyone for all your support these past six months!! Words can't express how much it meant to me. I love all of you more than words could ever describe. The blog helps ground me when my emotions seem to be getting the best of me. Without the support, I surely wouldn't have the attitude I have today. In the end, everything will work out for the best. I will be back on my feet and Mr.Rowland and Mr.Jordan will be staring at bars and playing basketball in the courtyard for a long while.
