I AM SO HAPPY. THE BLOG IS BACK. I can't believe Project Walk is almost over. The time went by so fast. I know Michael is frustrated because he wanted to be so much further along than he is. He has made progress though. He is loosening up (not as loose as he wants to be) and we have been able to decrease his medication. Yesterday, they put Michael on the spin bike and assisted him with pedaling. He did well but was very frustrated that he could not pedal himself. All in time. Today he is getting a massage at project walk. I hope it helps him.

We went out to dinner last night and asked the waitress if they had a table that the wheelchair would fit under. She said sure. Of course, when we got to the table he didn't fit. He gets so upset because everything is a hassle when you are in a wheelchair. That is why he has to work hard to get out of it. We almost left the restaurant but came up with the idea to take him out of the wheelchair and put him in a regular chair. It worked great and he was happy to be part of the table with everyone else.

Please blog. We have been going through withdrawal.

I'm so HAPPY! the blog is back, we are all going through withdrawal, not knowing what is going on.
Michael, I can't tell you how proud we are of all you have accomplished in just 3 short weeks. I know you wanted to be farther along, but all good things take time. You will get there. You are making the most of this opportunity and finding your strenghts. We are behind you 100%.
Have a good trip back to Rochester.
Hugs, Sharon

Cheri, thanks for filling us in on what was going on the last couple of days.

I know how discouraged you get and that breaks my heart, but just think about how far you have come in less than five months... you could not even feed yourself and hold a fork. I wish you an amazing last day tomorrow at Project Walk and a safe trip back to you and the rest of the fam. I miss all of you so much and love you even more!!!! XOXOXO

Michael and everyone in San Diego, I thought my computer was not working right (as usual). I could not get into the blog, but thank you, God, that it it working now. It must have been the hardest for you, not getting messages, support, and love notes from all your friends, family, and strangers.

Last day tomorrow, and you have achieved so much, even though you do not think so. If I were in your place, I know I would have been frustrated also. BUT YOU ARE GOING BACK TO PROJECT WALK and will gain more each time you are there. I do BELIEVE that you will be walking and that you have picked the right place to do your rehab. I can't wait to see you at Chips for Bliss. Have faith and I know you BELIEVE.

Joshua, I bought another car today and have come to realize that I think I made a mistake with the money, paid too much.

Everyone have a pleasant flight home on Saturday. Love to all of you. Hugs!! Frandma Ger / Grandcracker

Well you guys have had a wonderful experience and I know you are bringing it all home so everyone will learn and be able to help. The Pool is looking so much better. Spent the day with Gramma Joy. I love the dogs. But they did get into a fight and Gracey BIT Glorys ear. OH GOD, Gramma Joy was yelling. Gracey went into her bed and then later she was outside hanging her head. They are so funny. Can't wait to see you all and we will have to get together for a welcome home, end of the summer Party. Well take care and hugs and kissess to you all, Patti (mom) xoxo

Finally the blogs are back! We are so sad that Michael is frustrated. You have come so far, and we have all learned so much. You are the one who keeps us all upbeat. You need to take it one day at a time. We will all work so hard with you when you get home. Remember all the people who are here for you. We all BELIEVE! We will pack our bags and go back to San Diego as soon as you say the word. We love you and can't wait to see you.

Michael,
Wow! So we blew up another blog. You are so popular I can't keep up with the reading. I don't want to hear you are getting frustrated but you need to take one moment at a time! When you are down you need to revisit where you came from and you will see that you have made so much progress! We are all so proud of you and stand behind you 100%. Don't let those obstacles frustrate you. Just move the barriers and you will be able to accomplish any challenge that life throws at you. Again, I am so proud of you and can't wait to get up there and see you. I am sorry we are not going to be able to make it up to the function this weekend. Make sure you mention that it is Nanny's birthday too! So she will have to help celebrate with you :) I will try to keep up with all of these blogs. Have a safe trip home I know Mom and everyone will keep you so busy Project Walk will seem like a walk in the park. We love you!!!

Everyone should try to watch WHAM news around 8:30am. We will be talking up "Chips for Bliss" WHAM is usually 13 but I think at 7 it starts broadcasting on 16. Not totally sure so if you are tuned in just check both 13 and 16!!!

I forgot to tell everyone that Michael has been eating with a fork and spoon without the red foam around it. He has also graduated to a regular toothbrush. These are big accomplishments that we often forget to mention. Small steps towards our final goal.

He also had a great deep tissue massage tonight. The massage therapist was sweating when he worked on Michael. He said he has never had anyone so tight. You could hear popping when he massaged Michael's legs. We need to find a massage therapist at home that specializes in "Ralphy" (spelling) massage. If anyone knows anyone, please let us know.

We had kind of a humbling experience tonight. We met a 25 year old man named Jason in the hotel tonight who is here with his father on a business trip. Jason walks with quite a limp, has slurred speech and has learning deficits. He introduced himself to Michael and told us all that when he was six years old he and his mother were hit by a car. His mother was killed and he was in a coma for 41 days. He said that he remained in the hospital for a year. His story really hit us hard, because he and his family have been through so much.

It's me again. The best thing that has happened to me in weeks, is talking to Josh, Mike, and Kelsey. I wish i could tape the noise of your room. It sounded like you had whole football team in there. It sounds like such fun, in spite of the work that everyone is doing to help Michael reach his goal.

Oh Josh, it was so good to hear your voice. Even though I never see you, I miss you a whole lot. You are my Golden Grandchild. I hope in these 3 weeks you all have been able to have fun doing other things. Is it true, Big Mike, that you alone have gone to a nude beach. Such selfishness - tsk, tsk, tsk. And those poor young boys just aching to go. Well, so be it. With age comes priviledge.

I hope you have a nice ride home. It will be hard to leave the therapists behind. But you can tell them that you and your entourage will be coming back soon. You are going to need time at home to practise all that you have.

By the way, Cherri, Patti and I know a therapist who might fit the bill, or at least, he may know someone who does what Mike needs. Talk to Patti.

Was it Kelsey who said that I wrote stories on the blogs??? You see Kelsey, no one allows me to speak in real life, so I get all that I can on paper. I know you won't believe it, but I am a shy withdrawn person. Ask Joshua. OK, I am getting tired tonight and I am going to sit an watch HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. I have only seen it a dozen times.

One more thing. The article that Mark Hare wrote was wonderful. Maybe you can get him to blog also.

Good night and sweet dreams to all of you. You are all so strong. All the things that you, Cherri and Big Mike, do for and with Michael, will be in his heart forever. He is such a great person because you both are great people. God Bless All. Hugs and kisses (don't you laugh, Josh). I BELIEVE that sll of you are the reason that Michael BELIEVES so much.

Remember returning to Rochester is just a "little break" for you ---you are going back to Project Walk to reach your goal. I know your mother has just one goal in mind when she gets home---"I'll have a large, triple cream and triple sweet and low "
See you soon !!

Hi Michael and Bliss family,
I've missed you and everyone on the blog. I can't believe it blew up. I missed hearing about what you've been doing everyday and the progress you've been making. I know you love Project Walk and they've helped you so much. I know all of your family & friends in Rochester can't wait to see you when you get home! You're going to have such a great event on Sunday to help you get back to San Diego. Have a fantastic Friday at rehab and have a safe and comfortable trip back home. We all love you and miss you. Corey says hi! P.S. Tell your mom that the therapy I think she was talking about is "Rolfing therapy"-it helps to bring the body back into vertical alignment. So when you're looking for a massage therapist ask for someone who specializes in or who is good at Rolfing! Take care!

I am sure you are all sleeping still but I wanted to tell you that Louie and Al were just on CW16 news telling the whole city your story and to come on out to "Chips for Bliss." It will be very hard for you to leave tomorrow but now we know that you can go back when you are ready! Stay strong and keep "BELIEVING - because we all believe in you. Cher - I do know a massage therapist who has offered to come and see Mike but I wasn't sure if he was ready for that (she's really hot too Mike). I will check with her to see if she knows 'Ralphy' and schedule a time for her to come to the house. Her name is Tracey and she is awesome. Have a safe trip home. We miss you all. Love, Barb

Hi Blisses!
Cher - I thought maybe you were talking about Reiki when you mentioned the massage call Ralphie, but thanks to Kellie for clearing that up. Reiki may not be a bad idea either. It is a type of massage that generates heat in the muscles. We have a lady who has been following Mike's story coming to the fundraiser on Sunday who specializes in alternative therapies. She is a Certified Nurse Practitioner and Reiki Master Teacher. She e-mailed me several times and is interested in what she can do for you.

I know you don't want to come back yet and you're not really missing much here. Exciting event for today - I was attempting to brush my cat because she throws up a hairball at least once per day. I ended up with so much cat hair on myself that I now look like a cat. You know you can't get that kind of excitement in San Diego. You have a great day and a safe trip home tomorrow. See you Sunday! Good morning, dearest Michael...as with everyone else, I, too, have been going thru withdrawal...thank goodness the BLOG IS BACK!

Your last day here in CA! I know you will make the most of it and, it won't be your last day here forever. Just like the blog, you will be back! And stronger than ever so you will be just that much closer to your goal! I am so proud to hear of your accomplishments! It's one thing to be on the sidelines cheering you on, and another to be the one out on that field who has to do all the work! But, you know, we are all being truthful when we say how far you have come and how proud we are and that we all BELIEVE and know you will walk again! We aren't just encouraging you to be saying 'something.' We have witnessed so much regarding your recovery, and sometimes maybe you 'can't see the forest for the trees.' Get discouraged and frustrated and angry and then turn that into energy to reach your goal. Those feelings are natural, but hard to deal with and, believe it or not, so very hard on your mom and dad and all of your loved ones. They just ache for you and all of us on the sidelines do, too. We are with you to the end on this one, Michael, and I do know that that does help you along. BELIEVE and STAND, young man!

Rainbows have a very special place in my heart, too. Had a 'miracle' rainbow at one point and so I don't take them for granted any more. They all are meaningful and God's gift to us. They are just one more symbol that He has to show us that miracles still do happen. So I think the rainbow over your billboard definitely is another of His promises for good things to come.

Thank you, Barb, for acknowledging me for the Chips for Bliss. I just can't STAND it that I can't be there to help celebrate Mike's progress. Just to see him and give him a hug in person! And to meet all the other bloggers! I feel like we are all family. See...another thing you have done for us, Michael, uniting all of these strangers to become one thru our one common goal...YOU! I would like to think that some friendships and bonds have been made that will take us through the years together. Adrianne has strict orders to go around on Sunday and meet everyone for me! And to take pics. I would love to put faces to all of these loving messages.

I was watching a program on tv the other day and it was about surfers that are afflicted on the very first time they surf with paralysis. I can't remember the name of the syndrome. But, it showed one young man by the name of Joe who is at Project Walk. Do you know who I mean? I suppose there are tons of people there, but was just wondering.

Well, sweetheart...I won't be blogging again till you get home. I wish you an awesome last day (for now) at Project Walk. And for your family. I do expect that Project Walk will be as sad seeing you go as you will be to go. BUT...you are coming back! And that's the main thing. I do believe a break to go home and get your 'love connection' with everyone is very important at this point...so you are, at all times, where you should be, young man. Remember, God's time line is not always ours but He will never leave you! Hope you all go out for a special dinner tonite and have a wonderful trip home. And, ah, Sunday....!!!! I will be there in my heart and expect a blow-by-blow from Adrianne and my wonderful grandsons and Jenna (my adopted granddaughter!).

By the way, I pray and think of Steve everyday also. How is he doing and am sure he will be so happy to have you around again. Hi, Steve! Love to you also! I'll be sending those butterflys east instead of south beginning tomorrow! gramma b

We met another family here yesterday that is here with their 17 year old son Cameron. Cameron was injured April 22, 2008 exactly a month after Michael when he collided with an opponent playing high school lacrosse. It was nice to be able to tell her and show her the progress that Michael has made being a month ahead of Cameron. His injury is very similar to Michael's. It is comforting to talk to people faced with the same challenges and goals. We also saw Jamie again yesterday. He said a prayer for Michael again. I think it was April who asked if we knew Jamie was a pastor before we met him. We didn't know when we first met him. Fant Nik researched and found out he was a pastor, what church he worked at and how to contact him.

Getting ready for Michael's final workout.

I'M BACK ---have to write my last blog for this section of your rehab. I hope you all are able to sleep on your trip home. You all have worked so hard, used so many muscles, I should think that you would pass out.

Kelsey, I will try so hard to make this a short story, aut sometimes I just rattle on and don't know when to stop. I have a good idea. Just get ready for bed, and read my long stories with your jamies on, and I guarantee you will fall asleep fast.

Listen all, I think that this person , Barbara Sullivan, writes the most inspiring blogs. She touches my heart and I am sure she gets to all of you, especially you, Michael. She is so right about all of us wanting to meet all of the other bloggers, only I forget so easily, that I will never remember your names.

Do something nice tonight, leaving your footprints in San Diego, saying you will be back as soon as you get your energy back in force, Michael. As I said in my last blog, you will need to perfect the many things you learned, to make yourself ready for the next session.

I would like to say that I have never seen so much family, friends , and strangers pull together for anyone before. It is like you have been given a mission, Mike, to draw people closer to each other. This was a random attack on you, Mike, but God is looking at the big picture and sees something that we cannot see. We trust and BELIEVE In God and also you, Michael. So don't give up. We all love you and have faith in you.

Joshua, what did you text to your Mom at 1:45 AM that she will never forget? Hmmmmmm. Do you think that Mitch is home yet??

Good night and sweet dreams to all. I will see you at Chips for Bliss. Love, Hugs, from Frandma Ger / Gramcracker

Michael worked up a great sweat today at Project Walk. We all know what we have to practice now to get Michael to the next step. Our new friend Jason joined us for pizza tonight. He has been through a lot and taught us that hard work will get Mike through this too.

We land at 6:45 p.m. tomorrow night Rochester time. We will see everyone soon. We are hoping for a huge turnout for Chips for Bliss. Everyone has worked so hard to make it a great event for Michael.

Michael, you should be on your way home !!!!I hope you have a relaxing trip...... I forgot to tell you, a woman called me a couple of days ago, she is the manager of the Perinton Travel Hockey Team, and her team has been reading about you......She told me she had a fundraiser for you, and the kids collected a donation for you,she wanted to know where to send the check !!!I told her to send the donation on your web-site.So,when you get it you'll know....I thanked her, from me and my family for supporting my nephew that she does'nt even know.I am truly amazed at all the love and support you have been getting....from even strangers.I love you Michael Bliss, and you are on your road to fully recover from this terrible thing that has happened to you.Thank you for being you........xoxoxoxo

We had company from out of town all week with a lot of late nights and early mornngs, so today was the first chance I had to get on the blog.  I've been feeling frustrated all week at not being able to check in.  I thought it would take me all day to catch up on reading all the blogs, but found out it's been down. Too bad we couldn't make 1000 blogs, but at least it's back up.
I have to read all the blogs, because I'm afraid I'l miss something important.  One minute I'm laughing out loud, the next minute I have tears in my eyes. These blogs(ers) are just the greatest.

Michael, you have come so far.  I know it doesn't seem that way to you, but you have.  I am a person who has very little patience (unfortunately), so I can imagine a little bit of how you must feel.  Just take a deep breath and keep working hard.  You will meet your goal, I just know it.

I am so looking forward to tomorrow and meeting all the fants, fuzins, frandmas, and all the other bloggers.  But, it sounds like there will be such a huge crowd there (which is the whole point of the day and a good thing) that I might not get that chance.  I wish I didn't live so far out so I could contribute some time and effort into your fundraisers. For those of you in the Rochester area who don't know me, I live out in Newark in Wayne County.  Yeah, I'm a 315'er.  But, I was born and brought up in Roch., so I'm not a true 315'er.

Anyway, see y'all tomorrow.

Okay, I'm confused. I just wrote a long blog, submitted it, and it popped up under the one from "Dad" about 15 min. to spare. It WAS THERE! Now it's disappeared!!!!! I want to know who stole my blog message. It was a pretty good blog, too, I thought. Now I don't remember what I said. Oh well, I'll try again later.

Hey Mike,

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Sorry that I have not been blogging but my computer has been on the fritz. My mom called me today to see if I fell off the face of the earth...I said "who is this?" I spent several hours on the phone last night with time warner to correct the situation - and here I am. I see that Fant KittyKim is still doing ever so exciting things. I wonder what it is like to be in her brain...Fant Nikki is camping at Darien Lake - that isn't real camping - there is an amusement park right there. She is lame. I had to go and feed Jeter (her cat)today - and I had to bring the food. What kind of deal is that. This is what she said to me, "you will drive to my house and feed my cat and you will bring some food". Who does she think she's talking to? I did it though cause I feel sorry for the cat. He told me today that he wanted to come and live with me - that he has had enough of kids pulling him and sitting on him and dressing him up in doll clothes. I poured him a gin and juice and put it in his bowl - he'll be fine.

talk to you soon,
love ya,
Fant Karin

Today was certainly proof of that. It was so nice to see you, your family and meet some fellow bloggers. I hope you enjoyed your day today. We had alot of fun. The bird almost riped my hand off when i went to pet him. I thought the whole event was a tremendous success. I was talking with your mom and dad and they said that San Diego was very encouraging, thats great! Mike, have you been watching Mike Phelps smash Olympic records? You can see how the whole nation loves greatness and heroes. I dont think there wasnt one American not glued to their tvs to watch him win his 8th gold. Mike, you are our own Mike Phelps. You inspire us to give a little more, go the extra mile, and push when we have nothing left! What you are doing and are about to do is better than any amount of gold medals, i truly am witnessing greatness. I have said this before and I will say it again, "YOU WILL WALK AGAIN!" Keep your eyes on the prize and i will be watching when you win that gold medal. I love u and keep inspiring all of us.

Hi Michael,It was so good to see you yesterday.  You have made so much improvement since I saw you at Holy Cross.  All your hard work is really paying off.  Keep it up, although I know you don't know how to do things any other way than working hard.  Do your ears ring from all the people praying for  you?It was really a great afternoon at Chips for Bliss.  I was on a mission to meet bloggers and I accomplished a lot.  I met all the fants, who are terrific; Kristen, Barb, Megan. I met fuzzins and 1 funcle. I even met Nanny's cousin from Baltimore and her family.  They were a nice surprise for the Bliss family, who didn't know they were coming.  I didn't get to meet any frandmas though.  Maybe someother time.Congratulations to Anna and Chuck on winning the TV!  I couldn't stay to hear who won anything - I had to get back to my home in the "boonies".I recorded all 3 major news channels last night and just finished watching their coverage of the benefit.  Channel 8's was the best, although it was good to see you on all 3 channels.  You looked so upbeat and positive.Get some rest and I hope you raised enough money to go to SD for as long as you need to.

What a great event Chips for Bliss was. We think everyone who volunteered did a great job. It was so well organized and I know that so many people put a lot of hard work into the event. Michael and our entire family want to thank all of the people who came to show their support and helped raise money for Michael to ensure he has the best therapy possible to meet his goals. Last night bought him more time at Project Walk. All of the money raised will be used to help Michael recover. We could never send him to Project Walk without the support from our community. We are very fortunate to live in Rochester. I never realized before what a great place Rochester is to live.

Michael started back at his rehab at Clinton Crossings today. They were impressed with some of the new stuff he could do. He worked hard in therapy today.

After all Michael has endured the last 4 1/2 months, I realize that we really shouldn't "sweat the small stuff" as the saying goes. If you have a problem that can be fixed, don't let it ruin your day.

Mike,
I often think how fitting your last name is “Bliss”. Definition: Orig., blithesomeness; gladness; now, the highest degree of happiness; blessedness; exalted felicity; heavenly joy. That is a gift you give to others (and we saw that yesterday) and that is what I pray for each day for you...Bliss. Rest up my friend and take time to take in all that you’ve accomplished. Sweet dreams.
P.S. Nanny, thank you for pointing out family and friends to me yesterday. I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. I didn’t get to walk around and meet as many people as I had hoped to because that DiRosato’s pizza was such a hit!

I'm sorry I missed the "chips 4 Bliss" I had to work. From what I hear it was a great success. I cant wait to see you, You have come such a long, long way and when I saw your smiling face on the news, I can see that you are as positive as always. You know, As I read these blogs, I learn of the positive things that people do for others, makes me proud to live in Rochester, and I never really cared for it much before.
Keep up the hard work Mikey, there will be some days better that others, but in the long run YOU WILL SUCCEED.
Miss ya buddy.....

Hi Mike,

Hope you had a great day - it was nice out. Is Fant Nik stalking you again? Tell her you "got stuff" and you can't talk. That just makes her mad and she might hang up. It was really nice to see you on sunday - if even for just a minute - you were busy - you had "stuff". The Fants and I leave for Florida on thursday morning - so you can pretty much count on another awesome t-shirt from Fant Kim. Woohoo. Not sure what Fant Yahoo will come up with -maybe she can make some cool sand art thing for you or find you a sweet shell at the beach.

blog ya later,
love ya,
Fant Karin

ps - it was great meeting some of the other bloggers sunday.

Hey there Michael:
Sorry, I missed a day, sometimes I just can't think of anything interesting to say (like when has that stopped me before!) Anyways, when I left your house, I went home and attempted to make dinner. Here's a hot tip for you when you're out on your own and making yourself something to eat - when you put butter in a pan, it will melt so much faster if you turn the burner on. Similarly, cookies and brownies also bake much faster when the oven is actually on. Just a little FYI to make your life easier when you have to cook for yourself. I hope you noticed that Fant Karin did not mention if she was bringing you anything from Florida - just thought I'd point that out. I'm gonna be on the lookout for a "My Fant went to Florida and all I got was this T-shirt", but I'm not sure if they make those or not. Well, I hope you get a good night of sleep without Gracie whipping you in the face with her tail a million times. Love ya lots!!! Fant Kim

Mike,

I hope your body clock is getting back to Eastern time. The time change can really mess you up and sometimes it takes a few days before you feel it and then a few more to get back to normal. I don’t know what you do out in Batavia, but I hope it went well. Sounds like there might be a good exercise or rehab facility out there. Thinking of you and keeping you close in our prayers always. Sweet dreams.
P.S. Fants – have a great time in Florida. Hope you will continue to blog because yours are definitely worth reading ;- ) You all certainly have a great sense of humor.
Tina – it was very nice meeting you and working with you on Sunday. I hope your daughter didn’t expect much out of you in the evening.

Hey Mike,

I hope you are not so tight and feeling better tonight. Ya know, it's funny that Fant Woot and Fant Yahoo were over visiting today without me - because I was off today and even stopped at Fant Kim's this morning to ask her if she wanted to go to the gym. She mentioned nothing of a visit. She's going to have to pay for that somehow and she probably isn't going to like it. I can't blame Fant Nik, poor thing can barely take care of herself. She doesn't know yet, but we are checking her into the loony bin in Florida - we are just pretending to being going on a sisters trip to our Mom's house. As soon as we get there - ditching her at Punta Gorda's House for the Insane and Dumb. She fits both those bills.

Hey, have fun with Adam tomorrow - he is my favorite horse to ride - tell him I sent ya.

love ya,
Fant Karin

Hey Mike!

How the heck are you kid?! I hope you had a great Tuesday.

So I had an interview today at RIT. I felt like I answered their questions well but then at the end of the interview this one woman said, "oh I have a writing assignment for you, in one or two pages tell me how your skills will transfer to this position" I was thinking HELLO isn't this what we have been talking about for the last half hour. Oh my goodness!! So I went home and did her assignment but not before I stopped at the mall for an auntie annie pretzel. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!! Words to live by!!

I hate to think of you in pain--I hope it doesn't last long. The plan is relaxing, stretching and taking deep breaths as opposed to taking medication ? Right ? We will visit soon, when things are better--we can catch up. Whats with the horse ? Are you going to Baltimore ?

Good Morning Michael,
Hope today is better than yesterday. You know - I've been praying for you and now it's your turn to pray for me. The Fants are coming, the Fants are coming! They will be here in FL from Mon. till Thurs. You know what they can be like when they get together, so you understand why I need prayers, but what you don't know is that their main mission is usually to see which one can embarass me the most. Fant Kim will rearrange displays in Dept. store and model homes. If you take them to the grocery store they get into the carts and push each other - you get the idea. I'm just saying - pray for me. If they ever want to take you on a road trip, just know that I tried to warn you.
Keep your chin up and keep trying - you'll get there.
Hugs, Sharon

Hi Mike:
I don't know what my mother is talking about, we have never done any of those things. One thing I will confess to however, is a time when we were at Dairy Queen (love it) and she was trying to put my money back in my pocket because she wanted to pay (like we're really going to let that happen) and I screamed, "This is not my mother", like they tell little kids to do if someone is trying to kidnap them. She has never tried to give me back my money again. I guess you could pray for her anyways, now we're going to have do something to embarrass her. Maybe we can surprise her and show up at her work. Oh, this could be fun. Gotta run and think up evil things to do now. You have a great day!! Love ya lots!!! Fant Kim

I do believe you are going to have a blast with your daughters. Have a few cocktails before they get there--it will ease the pain. I will say the rosary for you---but most of all just have fun together and laugh !! I'm sure the Fants will have alot of stories to tell us--can't wait.

First of all, I want to wish the Fants and Sharon a great time in Florida. I know there will be lots of laughs. I hope none of you do what I do when I laugh too much. Seriously, the fants are the best, and I know that's because of their mom. Enjoy every minute of your time together. We will miss the fants. We so appreciate your blogs, telephone calls and visits to Michael. They are sure helping all of us get thru Michael's journey. Mark your calendars - the run put on by the Chamber of Commerce, with part of the proceeds going to Michael, is November 9. I'm sure they will be looking for volunteers. I've received some more money from Y friends, my priest and other friends that Michael can use on his next visit to Project Walk. Everyone is awesome. We are so appreciative of everyone's generousity. I understand that Matthew used 75 lbs of weights to hold Michael's legs down last night, so they didn't pop up. Actually he put a blanket over Michael's legs and secured it with the weights. Michael was able to get a better night's sleep than he did the night before when I put a pillow on his legs and slept on them. We should write a book about all that Michael's has had to endure.

I want to thank Fant Karin for setting up Michael with horse therapy this evening. It seems like all I have to do is say what we need and the Fants are able to get it. I need a pot of gold.

Seriously, Michael was able to ride a horse with the assistance of Jane and Bryce at Manitou Farms. It was so nice of them to allow Michael to give it a try. We would not have been able to get Michael on the horse if it wasn't for the assistance of Funcle Joe, Fant Kim and Michael's new Funcle Dean. We could not have done it without their help. Michael said his legs felt good after riding the horse. We hope it lasts all night.

I want to go with you one of these times - perhaps when you get back from your next trip. Good luck there by the way.

My Mom...she thinks she is soooooo funny. She better brace for Hurricane Sista Act II, cause we are bringing it and turning it up a notch this year. Bigga, Betta (Fant Nik and Fant Kim) and Mo Betta (me) are on tour in sunny southwest Florida for 5 whole days and it's crack-a-lackin fo shiz. You know it baby! We'll be on the blog all week.

I should probably go pack now,

Hi Mike,

I'm sorry to hear from the blogs that you are having trouble sleeping. I think what Matt came up with was quite creative. I'm glad it helped. I read that he made you a table for stretching. He must be pretty handy to have around.

I think it's terrific about the horse. I hope it helped a lot.

To The Fants - Bon Voyage. Have a safe and fun trip to FL and don't embarrass your mom too much.

Sharon - I feel very sorry for you for what the fants put you through, but I have to say after reading your blogs, that I think they got their sense of humor from you. Am I right? But I do agree that the cart thing was a little over the top. Seriously, I'm sure that you will all have a wonderful visit with lots of laughs.

Will be loking for lots of humorous stories on the blog about the trip.

Dear, Dear Mike...so sorry I haven't been blogging...my girlfriend was up here visiting me from S. Calif. for a week and just left. She lives in Sunland which is part of the San Fernando Valley...no, she's not a valley girl. We were raised in Glendale and would you believe we met in school in 1958!!! 50 years and she's still my best friend! Who'd a thunk it! And, boy, have those years gone by fast and lots of water under the bridge!!

Anyway, here I am. I'm sorry to hear that you have been in pain. Is that just at nite when you are sleeping? What a great brother you have and very inventive. But, I'm sure you know that. I do hope you are able to relax and get a good nite's sleep tonite.

Adrianne filled me in on the Chips for Bliss and it really does sound like a success. I was taking a nap and she kept sending me pics on my cell phone. Everytime I fell asleep there would be another little beep. It was great! Saw some wonderful faces that I already knew, especially yours, but also got to see Aunt Kim Spade...cutie! You are as cute as you are sweet, Auntie Kim! Why, tho, did I picture you as a blond???? I am so sorry that I couldn't be there! And by the time I move back, you won't need these fundraisers! Which is a good thing!

I hear you are going to Baltimore to check out a new rehab place. It would be nice to have it so much closer, I know. And don't you have relatives there that you can stay with? I'll be saying a prayer that it will be just the place for you.

I wish the Fants and their mom a great time and I have no doubt they will. Sharon, it's great living long enough to see your kids getting payback. When they are in the shopping cart, or any other place they shouldn't be, just pretend you don't know them. And, if you are driving, you can actually leave them there.

I am going on a cruise to Alaska on Monday, so I will try to blog everyday till then cause I don't think I can blog from the ship. I don't know...never been on a cruise before. I don't even care where it's headed...just want to be pampered for 10 whole days!

Well, sweetheart, you are in my prayers and thoughts, as usual. I'm sure being surrounded by all your loved ones at home is a wonderful inspiration for you. Sleep well, dear one, and I am sending you all of the most beautiful butterflies from Calif! And remember, you are being watched over by beautiful angels while you sleep. And, the most beautiful angel of all...no, not Gabriel or Michael the Archangel...but Grumpy! I love you and God Bless You and your wonderful family! gramma b

Good Morning Mike;
Hope you got your Klondike bars, we had no idea you liked those or we would have hooked you up before we left. If you haven't gotten them yet, let us know and we'll send the funcles over so fast with them. Thought I'd give you a recap of Day 1 on vacation with my sisters. First of all, I had to sit in the middle on the plane. Fant Karin decided she would also require my leg room in addition to hers and Fant Nik (let's call her Dramamine girl) has to lay all over you cause she's more dopey than usual. Tnen Fant Karin turned Fant Nik's overhead air vent to full blast, which caused Fant Nik to scream, thinking she was being sucked out of the plane. While waiting for our luggage, got to watch my sisters fight over who was going to stand next to Hottie Soldier Guy, who I'm pretty sure heard them say, "Hey, I wanna stand next to Hottie Soldier!" (Everyone pray for Sgt. Fargo - he's being deployed to Afghanistan) We stopped for lunch at Checkers (yummy) and Fant Nik ate half of my Bacon Cheddar Ranch fries cuz they were ever so much better than the plain fries she ordered. I didn't get the milkshake I ordered, so had to rely on the kindness of my sisters to share their Cokes. Fant Nik's pretty good at sharing cuz she has those 5 kids who never let her finish anything herself, but Fant Karin says "Hey, that's mine!" Again, had to sit in the middle in the car on the way home, where in their mature manner, they made faces and noises at me, which they denied of course. So, sitting on the couch, minding my own business, they both decide to come over and put their grimy feet on me (they know I hate feet). So, I scratched Fant Nik, not Fant Karin. I can outrun Fant Nik, but Fant Karin could not only catch me, but also kill me. Then Fant Nik had to be a big crybaby and tattle tale to our mom. Conversation went like this.
Fant Nik: Mom, Kim scratched my foot.
Fant Kim: She put her foot on me.
Mom: When will you girls ever stop this?
Fant Karin: We'll still be doing this when we're 80.
Mom: Thank God, I'll be dead by then.
Fant Karin: Doesn't matter, you'll still be watching us.
Mom walks away, shaking her head, muttering "Why me?"
After that, we took naps since we were up at 4:45 to catch our flight. Mommy made us delicious chicken and dumplings for supper and then we just watched TV and went nite nite. Fant Karin, the hog, always gets her own room and me and Fant Nik have to share a bed, where we say "Don't you dare come on my side and touch me while I'm sleeping." And so ends Day 1 in Florida. Hope you have a great day today and eat some ice cream!!! Love ya lots!! Fant Kim

Josh Lingard, Matt and Michael's father carried Michael in the basement last night to sleep. We also changed up some of Michael's medications. This is a first. Michael said, "I slept good last night." We haven't heard that in five months (Michael was assaulted five months ago today).

He is still holding out for his Klondike bar. Maybe I can get him to do some new things when the fants get home for a Klonkike bar. There isn't much he wouldn't do for a Klondike bar.

Steve and I, were visiting Michael today. We stretched alittle bit, then we all helped Michael stand up !!!!!!! it was amazing....after Michael was standing,we set him up at the end of the table with his feet on the floor. We were all watching Court T.V.All of a sudden Michael rolls to the left and very softly with no sound.....He then rolls on the floor. And the next thing i hear is my brother say "Michael, what did you do that For" We all looked at each other, then finally went over to Michael to see if he was o.k. and tells us "oh my god" i think i dosed off alittle bit.......Soooooooo, we could never leave Michael sitting at the end of the table, even with 4 adults sitting in the same room with him.Beware everyone,it might happen again.....It was scary, but it was weird how he rolled over on the floor, and didnt even make a sound.Another crazy day at the 'Bliss's house'Im glad you enjoyed your 'Klondike Bars' they will be refreshing for when you get home from rehab.Stay strong,no more "roll overs" Im sure ill be over tomorrow some time.love you.xoxoxoxoxoxo

Today was the best day yet. Michael was able to stand with the parallell bars and take 2 steps. His PT helped him up and he was able to support himself independently and then take 2 small steps. He did this four times. Today is the five month anniversary of this horrible incident, and it is also Michael's 21 1/2 birthday. I can't stop crying. I needed some good news. Please keep the prayers coming.

What a wonderful day. We knew it was going to happen. We just didn't know when. There isn't a more determined person in the world than Michael. If anyone can make it happen, he can. I got the telephone call from Cherri from rehab, and I couldn't stop crying. What a roller coaster ride this has been. Mike and Cherri are working constantly with him. They are both so dedicated. Then we have Matthew who builds tables and comes up with the idea for weights to hold Michael's legs down. We need to write a book on how to recover from a spinal cord injury. Of course, we will have to include the names of everyone who have been behind Michael all this time. We are celebrating with pizza and klondike bars. Gramma also bought a cake. Life is Good, and we BELIEVE! Keep up the prayers.

GOOD JOB, MIKE!!! I know it's not about us, your working so hard and accomplishing sooo much, but I just feel like I was given a wonderful gift! And after 'only' 5 months! I know it seems forever to you and your family, but my gosh, a baby doesn't even start to do what you are doing in 5 months, and, let's face it, you did have to start fresh, just like a baby. You are so incredible, Mike, and as I said before, it is such an honor just to know you! I have to agree with Kristin...the end is near, I do believe. Everyday from here on out will bring a new positive development.

And to sleep good thru the nite! Now that's a biggie right there. How about going for nite #2! Told you Grumpy was watching over you!

Well, the price of gas here at my favorite (cheapest) station is now 3.87. I'm thinking how great that is...kinda sad. It's really hot out here again...90's and everything is drying out fast. Can hardly keep up with it. S. Cal. is rationing water now. It hasn't hit up here, but I'm waiting for it to any day.

Did you watch the Olympics? I saw the opening ceremony and will watch the closing. I guess I'm the only one in the USA that didn't see Michael Phelps get even one medal. But I am proud of him! I was going to try and keep track of Lopez (something). He's the runner and was one of the Lost Boys of the Sudan. Seemed like a wonderful young man and has come so far! What a story! But...didn't see him, either. I kind of boycott the Olympics cause they NEVER show my favorite sport...now don't laugh! Synchronized swimming! It is actually one of the most strenuous sports there is and it does take me back to my teenage years and all those ol' Esther Williams movies. All you grammas out there know who/what I'm talking about! Anyway, it beats beach volleyball!! Do they even have a beach in Beijeng???? But, I guess no one asked me!

I hear Josh and Nick stopped by to see you today. They can't come to Rochester without seeing you! You are just part of our family and a brother to them. I know that they will always be there for you and you are teaching them some hard lessons, too. I think all the kids have learned a lot from you, Mike. We don't know why these things happen--except that there are evil people out there--but, boy, if anyone has shown strength, courage, faith and all the while being humble, it's you. And you have no idea what it is for US to watch you! I just hope that we take heed and learn what real courage is and how we take so much for granted and how silly we sound to complain about all the 'small stuff.' And that we never forget it!

Sleep well tonite, sweet boy! I'm sending prayers and all those butterflys to you. And lots of love. Still can't wait to hug you in person! By that time, you will be able to walk right up to me, I bet! God Bless You and Your Family...gramma b

Nanny, I think that is a great idea about writing a book. A daily journal of what happens each day, the ups the downs. All from the families view, each experiance is a different one, I think it would help alot of people.
I hope tomorrow brings more new and exciting things for the Bliss Family... We will have to try hard to hunt down some parallel bars, I am sure there is someplace that has one they are not using...or even a way to make one.. hmm time to search the internet

This is Fizzant Karin...I did not get to talk with you on the phone today but, you guessed it, Woot and Yahoo woke me up from my nap to fill me in - Good stuff!!!

We just got back from seeing Step Brothers. You have to see it - it is very funny and we all laughed like hyenas during it. We met a guy named Ronny in the mall at some Sea Salt Lotion place - we all have very shiny nails and soft hands right now. He wanted to take Fant Nik home with him - he lives at the House of the Insane and Dumb too. Fant Nik is having a good time there - she presented us all with boondagle key chains and said she won in shuffleboard today. Go get 'em Fant Nik. Tomorrow is show and tell. Wonder what she'll do....I'll let Fant Kim write about that one - she's going during visiting hours -from 12:15- 12:17. Me, I'm chillaxing by the pool with an ice cold drink of some sort.

well, the fants are thinking of you and so is Momma Theriault. Sleep well.

Mike, just updated myself on the last couple days of blogs. I, like everyone else, am ecstatic about your accomplishment on the parallel bars. I told Raina and she said, yippee can we go see Michael? So one of these days we're going to stop by for a visit so she can meet you. I also think that we need to look into stocking your freezer with Klondike bars. Maybe that was the additional strength you needed, ice cream solves everything! Keep up the good work Michael. You are such an inspiration to so many people.

Shout out to Barbara Sullivan: My girlfriend has been watching Tae Kwon Do (no clue how to spell that) in the Olympics. Little did I know that was an Olympic Sport. She too was frustrated that it wasn't televised. She found it by searching on the internet (I believe maybe even through the Olympic website) and has been watching the whole competition. So if you're really interested in watching the synchronized swimming you might be able to catch it that way. I'm not sure how much longer the links will be up seeing as how tomorrow is the closing ceremony but you never know, it's worth a shot! By the way, I love reading your blogs, they are always so uplifting and sincere.

Hey Mike:
Just know you're working harder than we are - your fants are being extremely lazy in Florida. Except for yesterday, we did a little activity we like to call Shopping. It consists of a cardio workout - running to the car in the rain and a weight training section - many repetitions of lifting light things and putting them in the cart - we don't want to bulk up. Today it was sunny, so we just laid by the pool. Fant Karin came up with a fun game called "Stand on the side of the pool and try to pour beer into your sister's mouth while she is laying on a raft floating". This is not a good game. It took three tries to get it into my mouth, and then it made me choke. So I choked and smelled like a brewery. Just as a side note, I got grounded for two weeks when I was 16 for smelling like a brewery. FYI for any of you under age drinkers out there - do not call your mom to pick you up if you have been drinking. Call someone else's mom or you'll end up grounded. Also you should not drink at a high school football game, you will get suspended and then grounded (this was done by Fant Karin, not me). So we're going to the Captain and the Cowboy for dinner (which Fant Nik thinks is called the Captain and the Hat??) She's kinda special. Then we're going to Dairy Queen, the most wonderful place of all. I'll eat an extra Pecan Mudslide for you. Have a great day!! Love ya lots!! Your Fants

I too wrote a blog yesterday, and it disappeared. I am so proud of Michael. I am also so very proud of Mike and Cherri. They are working every minute with Michael on his road to recovery. Also, to all of you who are behind Michael, you are also making this happen. We are blessed to have all of you who keep Michael upbeat and positive. We couldn't do it without you. It seems like an eternity that we have waited for Michael to take steps. Actually, in the big picture it hasn't been that long. Each day we are seeing so much progress. His dad and Matthew have been taking him in down in the basement. That's his favorite place. He says he sleeps like a baby down there. So Guess What? Now Gramma and I get to sleep in the basement when we stay with Michael. Whatever it takes we will do. Of course, Matthew's idea of the weights to hold Michael's legs down also makes sleeping for Michael so much easier. Keep on Believing!!

Sorry you had to waste your time reading that nonsense. The doctors at the Dumb House just can't get the meds right and told us that we have to walk on eggshells around her and make her feel important, wanted and needed until they get the "cocktail" just right. Right now Fant Nik thinks she is a DJ and is "rapping". I'm sorry but I don't want to do that. Send help and make it quick.

Good evening, dear one...Adrianne told me that your mom said how straight you stood when you walked yesterday...stand tall! I have it marked on my calendar...I have all of your successes marked!

This will be short...I've been getting ready all day for my cruise and think I am pretty well on my way to being ready for that ship to pull out on Monday. Haven't packed, tho. That's the last thing as I drive myself crazy checking and rechecking to see if I really did pack this or that.

Now, the Fants on the cruise would be something, wouldn't it? They could be cruise directors, but between the 3 of them, no one would know who to follow or what to do! Challenge...

Thanks, Karen, for your input about the Olympics. I did look up synchronized swimming, but it didn't follow the timeline, or I got confused...which could very well be the case. Maybe it was China-time??? My nephew called me up today to tell me it was on so I did get to see the last 2 countries perform. I don't know how anyone can't love watching that! What stamina! Since the Fants are poolside these days, maybe they could get an act together and we could use it at the next fundraiser for you, Mike. How about it Fants?

Well, sweetheart, sleep well...my prayers and thoughts are with you as always. You are my hero and inspiration and you make me so happy! I love you, Michael Bliss!!! gramma b

I don't think the three fants on a cruise is a good idea. I would be afraid that all of them would not make it back to shore. What if the whole ship capsized?

Tomorrow we bring Michael to Baltimore to Kennedy Krieger. We are going to have him try a week there. We will keep blogging from Baltimore, so please actively blog. We are driving, so we plan to make many stops along the way so that Michael can stretch.

Hi Mike,

After catching up on the blogs, I now know why you were so happy when Leeann spoke with you on Friday. After she got off the phone, she said, “Mom, Mike sounded so happy today.” Well, you certainly had something to be ecstatic about, and now we do too. Taking steps on your own is an absolutely amazing accomplishment. I am a true believer in prayers, faith and love, and you have more of that behind you than anyone I know.

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to blog for a couple of days, but we were in Watkins Glen with our entire family (20 of us). My mom wanted to have a family celebration so we would all be together for my grandparents 72nd anniversary which was on the 22nd (a very good day). My Grama passed away the same day as your Grumpy did last year, and my Grampa passed away 7 weeks later. Their home was in Watkins Glen so we had a mass said for them on their anniversary, visited the cemetery, visited many places they enjoyed and had a great time together. We definitely had some “Fant-Like” moments, but I certainly can’t write stories like they can. I’ll leave that up to the “Fants” cause they’re the pros.

I’m thrilled to hear that you are going to Kennedy Krieger this week for more rehab. I hope you blow them away with your progress. We were able to get you what Leeann talked to you about. It is in my car waiting your arrival home so have your mom or dad blog when you are back in town, and we will get it over to you.

I wish you a safe, enjoyable trip to Baltimore to continue to make great progress. Sweet Dreams.

Hi Everyone, Well we arrived back home to Tucson safely. Had a great time and enjoyed seeing everyone. I will be flying back on Sept 2nd and hope to see all of you. I talked to PaPa and Lynn and they told me about you going to Baltimore and they plan on joining you. Hope you enjoy and get alot out of that facility. I know you will continue to work hard and make every minute count. Atleast driving there you can get out of the car and stretch. Believe me Uncle Bob and I know alot about driving. We put 7000 miles on the car this trip. Time to get a new car. Well have a productive week and hugs for everyone. Drive safe and blessings to all. We'll talk to you in Baltimore. Lots of Love to all.

Hey Michael:
Just wanted to wish you good luck on your week in Baltimore. We come home tomorrow (vacations are just too short), but I'm sure our mother will be glad to get her life back to normal. Fant Kim and Fant Nik went to church with Mom and Fran to pray for you. We did a special sign of peace which we will show you some time, but you'll have to see the movie Stepbrothers first. We didn't get a pinch for that, but that's not because Mom didn't want to. We got our last Dairy Queen for this trip - so good. Well, you have a great week!! Lov ya lots!!! Your fants

Hello, dear one...hope you have had a good weekend and rested up (I know you never rest!) for your trip to Baltimore. I know you will just knock 'em dead! They ain't seen nothin' till they've seen our Michael!

You know, I don't know how much parallel bars are, but I would be honored to put a donation in for them. Maybe if we all could do that, we could get Mike all set up at home.

Yes, Jackie, I certainly DO remember the June Taylor Dancers. Jackie Gleason! I used to love to watch them and always wanted to be a dancer. Never made it... I see the Fants haven't written today...I'm thinkin' they might be working on their routine...

Well, the bills are paid, suitcase is packed and the lawn and plants are watered and all of my Callie's things are out where the pet-sitter can find them. Whew! Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth going away. So much to do to get ready and then coming home, putting everything away is a pain. Hopefully, it will be worth it and we won't get seasick. According to the 10 day weather forecast, it should be raining the whole time we are in Alaska. Actually, I love the rain and some of my best times have been rainy experiences. And...if it's too bad, will just stay on board and be pampered...

I think when this is all over, honey, you and your family ought to celebrate and take a long, fun, relaxing vacation somewhere very special. You all certainly deserve it!

Am going to sign off for now. I won't be able to blog or check on them for the next 10 days and I will miss you and all of my fellow bloggers. I will be waiting to catch up and hear of all your new developments! BELIEVE, Michael, and I know you do and I will be thinking of you the whole trip. God Bless You, sweetheart. Have a safe and productive trip and don't forget to laugh along the way. I will 'talk' to you in 10 days...I Love You, gramma b

Hi Bliss Family,

Have a safe trip to Baltimore. We hope you have continued success there and can blog us more wonderful accomplishments like you had on the parallel bars.

There's been a lot of mention on the blog lately about Grumpy. I had the pleasure of "growing up" next to Grumpy for 12 years. It's nice to hear his name mentioned, it makes me think of him so fondly. He was always so proud of his children and grandchildren. I can see why. My grandparents have all passed away but they will forever hold a special place in my heart as I'm sure Grumpy does yours. It was an honor to know him.

Go get 'em in Baltimore Michael! I look forward to hearing how your first few days go. Sweet Dreams.

Hey Mike,

You go and learn awesome things in Baltimore. I'm so glad you are getting the chance to go there.

My grandpa, Max really loved this quote. Max was a real tough cookie, just like you. I have to believe that your Grumpy is telling Max all about what an amazing kid you are.

"To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

Hi Mike,

Glad to hear that you all arrived in Baltimore safe and sound. Hopefully you were able to stretch as often as you needed to. My road trips take a lot longer than most people because I have to stop often to move around or I stiffen up.

I pray that you sleep well tonight so it won't be too difficult for you to get up and around early tomorrow. Sometimes getting up early is easier when you are looking forward to something good, and it sounds like this would be that something.

We are all thinking of you, praying for you and hopeful for good things to happen for you. Sleep well and sweet dreams.

Megan, I loved your grampa's favorite quote. That one is a keeper. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mike,

Returned to work Tuesday morning--catching up on all the blogs. The very best news was that you took 2 steps---before you know it , it will be 4 steps...............
Happy that you arrived safe and sound in Baltimore.
Don pulled a fast one on me the other day---he was in the kitchen eating when it started to rain (cats and dogs I might add ) he yelled out to me that the lawn mower was in the back yard --he wanted me to get it and put it in the garage. Well, like a good wife ( stupid ) I ran to the back yard, but I didn't see the mower---water is now dripping from my hair and face---I looked up and Don was in the window--I asked him where the mower was---He started to laugh and said he was only kidding. Well, I stomped back into the house, dripping wet, as Jon and Don are laughing their a-- off. Don (laughing ) said that he didn't really think I would go outside. ( he was trying to chummy up to me now ) Several foul words exploded from my mouth (imagine that ) I told them that was ok --I had a plan and I was going to get him when he least expected it. I may need a little coaching from the fants !!
**Barb---I did synchronized swimming in high school and it was not easy. Synchronized swimming does not get enough credit. My kids and husband laugh when they think of me swimming--they know what I am like now-- I won't even put my head under water !!
Well Mike, it was nice seeing you on Sunday. Have a good week.
Love Mrs. T

Good Morning Michael,
The Fants are back in Rochester after a long delay in Sarasota and Atlanta. I'm sure those airports will never be the same!
I'm back to work today and trying to regain some sanity to my life. Your 3 Fants together are a wild and intense experience, and some things never change. "Mom, she's in my room, Mom, she took my nail polish" etc, etc, etc. They kept me up to date with what is happening with you and I couldn't be happier about those first steps.
Matt, I want to say that Mike is very lucky to have such a smart brother. That weight thing for Mike's legs was just genius. I'm sure Mom & Dad are proud of all of you.
Get all you can from your current stay in Baltimore.
Hugs, Sharon

Hi Mike:
Hope you had a great day today. Mine was great too - the first day back from vacation is so awesome, what with all the laundry and mess my family left for me. They are just the best. I noticed my mom left a blog and I just wanted to explain the nail polish thing. Fant Nik thinks everything is hers. My mom told me I left nail polish the last time I was there. The next thing you know, Fant Nik is saying it's hers and she brought it from her manicurist, even though there was CLEARLY a WalMart price sticker on it. I would like to know when professional manicurists started buying their product at WalMart and then leaving the price sticker on it. So yeah, I did tell my mom. Well, that's all for now, got a ton of typing to do, yuk!!! Love ya lots!! Fant Kim

We got back to the hotel room a little while ago after spending the entire day at Kennedy Krieger. Michael spent the first 2 hours being evaluated by the rehab doctor. From there he was evaluated for an hour by the OT and then a 3 hour evaluation by the PT. He was a little disappointed today because he felt like it was day one again. I had to explain to him that they have to evaluate him first to see for themselves where he is at. We were expecting it to be a large facility, but it was actually a very small area. It was quite a bit smaller than Clinton Crossings (Maybe it is true that good things come in small packages). Michael did get to meet Dr. McDonald who is the doctor that made a lot of accomplishments with Christopher Reeves. Can you believe that Dr. McDonald grew up in Chili?

We are hoping tomorrow will be more therapy than evaluations as Michael does not like to waste time in his recovery.

Wow I can't believe that Sheri's gramma died the same day as Grumpy. Both Sheri (Cherri)s lost a grandparent on the same day. God must have needed good people on July 27, 2007. I also remember the June Taylor dancers. I would have loved to have been able to dance like them, but I have two left feet. I'm wishing Barbara Sullivan a wonderful trip. I know it is a lot of work getting ready and then more work when you return, but it is so worth it. I'm glad the fants are back in town. I know their mom had a great time with her daughters. What a special time for the fants and their mom. Where is Gramcracker? We haven't heard from her in a very long time. Patti, I am so sorry to hear that you are still having such a bad time with your back. Maybe you will have to go with Michael to Project Walk when he returns. I know Michael had a long day today. It was basically a day of lots of questions and then trying to see where Michael is in his journey. I know he is tired now that the day at the rehab is over. He is working hard, and hopefully will learn new things for his recovery.

hi there michael - sorry you were frustrated with the process today. being patient is not one of my better qualities either. but you'll be all rested up and they know you better now so the rest of the week you can work your butt off!!

and gosh, like french fries and gravy? chips? mashed potats? with butter. and gravy. :) those foods seem to have worked much too good for me :( i wish i could donate about 20 to you. i'm sure every woman out there (well most of us, anyway) would love to help you out in that area. just know that when you are pigging out, you are doing it for us!!

so i'm not the only one who remembers the june taylor dancers - i used to look forward to them - esp when they showed them from overhead. too cool.

well, michael, hope tonite was a good one - rest up and go show 'em what you've got tomorrow!!

Mikey!

I'm sorry your day was a bit too slow moving. It must be so tough to have to do the "first day" process so many times. I know that once you get into the swing of things there you will be feeling much better. You just keep going, my friend!!

I would also love to donate some lbs!!! How fabulous that would be. If I was looking to gain weight I would start my day with hot cakes from MCDons. Then for lunch I would get some mozz. sticks and french fries at Fridays. With extra BBQ sauce, of course! Then some Aunt Annie's pretzels for a snack. Dinner would be all you can eat pizza until midnight!! That would be my perfect food day!! Oh my goodness...I have issues! I need to lay off the bathwater!!! :)

Hi Mike and Family,
I’m sorry to hear that your first day didn’t go as expected. Unfortunately, they do not know you and all the questions are necessary for them to get a feel for where you are, what they can do for you and how far you’ve come. It is so frustrating because you just want to move ahead and you feel like they are wasting precious time. Try to consider it just a stepping stone to get you where you need to be. I pray you sleep well tonight so you can show them all you’ve got tomorrow. I have to tell you that one of my very favorite fat foods is Kozy Shack rice pudding with cinnamon. We were trying to get my grandparents to gain weight last year, and we gave them carnation instant breakfast with whole milk because it was so much better tasting than Ensure. We even mixed the two of them with ice cream and made a shake out of it. Other foods for weight gain: whole grain toast and peanut butter, trail mixes with healthy nuts and dried fruits, milk and fruit juices, lean meat, fish, poultry, nuts, legumes, fruits, veggies and whole grains, protein powders, flax seed oil, psyllium powder for extra fiber. Hope you have a great day tomorrow. Sending you positive energy and love. Sweet dreams.
Good website to read about what to eat to gain weight: http://nutrition.about.com/od/dietsformedicaldisorders/f/GainWeight.htm
Resistive Exercise To Gain Weight
Exercise is also important for healthy weight gain. Resistance training exercises such as lifting weights will help to increase your muscle size.
P.S. Sadly, I show my age because I remember all of them including the June Taylor Dancers.

Hi Mikey!!! I'm sad to read that today was not what you expected, but I'm sure the rest of the week will be amazing! I bet those therapists and doctors just had to see what they were up against when they saw you and that is one of the STRONGEST and DETERMINED people I have ever met! I know this is going to be a beneficial experience to your recovery because you will not have it any other way! I'm eager to hear if you liked Project Walk better or not? Time will tell and when you leave Baltimore, you will know exactly where you are meant to be! No one will be able to make that choice for you except for YOU! Like all the other women bloggers, I'd love to donate some "fat" to you! Must be nice to have to TRY to eat worse to gain weight!!!! Well I love all of you and miss you all! Tell Kelsey that I wish I had her help setting up my classroom this week! I promise to bring her one day soon! Have a great day #2 tomorrow! Keep believin and keep workin hard!!!

P.S. Mrs. Timkey- I have to say that I was cracking up reading about the lawn mower incident!!! I could so see Mr. Timkey laughing his butt off from the window! Hi Bliss Family,

Today was just the beginning, tomorrow will be a better day because now they've got everything they need for you to get started! Thanks for the updates and keeping us posted. It's so great to know how each and every day goes.

Cherri, I think we're probably just too young to remember all of these dancers that people are talking about. Were any of them on MTV? Were their names possibly Madonna or Beyonce? No, then I have no clue. Ha ha. We were probably being rocked by our mommies when those shows were on.

I have to laugh at all of the food suggestions for Michael. How funny that Sherie was the only one with HEALTHY suggestions. Jeez, who'd have thought to gain weight and eat healthy! I too immediately thought of fatty foods but it's probably best to eat the stuff that's going to help gain weight and be good for Michael at the same time. Of course the ice cream is an exception, remember my motto--Ice Cream makes everything better!

I look forward to reading the blogs tomorrow.

Sweet dreams and a good night's sleep to you all.
