Fant Kim buys lousy presents anyway so don't get all excited - sorry but I'm just keeping it real. She'll probably bring you back a shirt that says "I heart Myrtle beach" or "I went to Myrtle Beach and you didn't". She's beat. I just wanted to say WOW! after seeing you tonight. You look amazing and progress each and every time I see you. I enjoy coming and hanging out with your family. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting a man last week that I will not soon forget. I received an e-mail from Mike Bliss’ grandma Lynn a couple of weeks ago. Mike was brutally attacked while leaving a bar in Buffalo in late March for the complete story, here’s the link: http://mikebliss.weebly.com/ . Mike is a loyal listener of WBEE’s and his Gram thought it might lift his spirits if one of us paid him a visit. Well she may have been right but in my opinion she had it backwards. I have to be honest, I was nervous, I knew I had an opportunity to maybe say or do something helpful but what can I say that will matter a hoot to a kid who is fighting to regain something that should have never been taken away from him. As I walked into the hospital my hands were sweating and my mind was racing, all I could think was “Just don’t babble Terry, don’t screw this up”.

As I walked into Mike’s room, there was an immediate peace and happiness that was palatable. Surrounded by a huge loving family sat a young man that is truly one in a million. Mike greeted me with a warm handshake that he has worked tirelessly for the past several weeks to be able to execute. His smile said it all. There sat the human definition of perseverance. He is a kind and loving individual and a true pleasure to meet and chat with.

Mike Bliss has every reason in the world to be a bitter angry vengeful young man. He was robbed of abilities that we take for granted everyday for no apparent reason. He is not… he looks to the future with hope and wonderment. He has accepted the challenges that lie ahead. He is a young man of great faith and determination.

As I left the hospital I realized that mine were the spirits that had been lifted. I was the lucky one last week to have the met the acquaintance of Mike Bliss and his wonderful family. I’ll ask one thing of you on his behalf. Pray fro Mike, however you start or end your day, whomever you put your belief in ask them to smile on Mike, give him a boost, he’ll do the rest. I believe with my whole heart and soul, Mike Bliss will walk out of Strong Memorial Hospital, maybe it will take some time but he’ll do it and we should all learn a lesson from it.

I don't even know where my adopted gramma's live...yikes - I could be in trouble.

Good morning Mike, I have been reading all the blogs Aunts/Uncles/Fants/Funcles and I thought I have to get in on this to. Well I thought and thought and came up with this since we are your Dad's Aunt and Uncle that makes us your GREAT AUNT AND UNCLE. Except that makes us old but what the heck we are!!! Getting hot here in Tucson (99) and it's getting closer to us being in Rochester. That blog from Terry Clifford was wonderful and oh so true. Wish I owned my own company because with your work ethic, enthusiasm, determination, and personality you would be head of the personnel dept, accounting dept, marketing dept, sales dept. I'm blogging from work cause I can do that. I wonder where Fant Kim is? Probably at the tourist traps in Myrtle looking for a unique gift (back scratcher that says "My Fant went to Myrtle and this is all she got me") Start practicing now on how you are going to recieve her gifts - maybe she'll bring you some salt water taffy - that's pretty popular and tastes so doggone good. Good Luck with that one.

It was really awesome to see you while we were home. I cannot get over how amazing you are. Through this entire ordeal you have risen above any negativity and blossomed. You are such a strong person. My sister sent me a video of you moving your leg. I am so inspired by your strength and can't wait to see you walk!

I remember when you were so shy that you wouldn't eat with our family and I used try to guilt trip you about my grandma's waffles...Now, if I had just met you, shy would not be a word I would use to describe you. I am so impressed by the positivity that you exuded and am so proud to be able to say I know you.

I also just want to say that the dedication from all of your peers (especially your family) is incredible. Your Parents and Grandparents are so strong just like you and I'm o happy for you that you have such an amazing support system by your side on a daily basis.

It's already wednesday - my goodness. I hope you have another really good day today in whatever you are doing but particularly in your rehab. I haven't been able to get my bracelet yet - stopped back yesterday again - instead of the bracelet I picked up a buffalo wrap and some potato wedges - the day before...a slice of pizza - I'm not eating any more of their food until I get my Bliss bracelet. I'm onto them.

I'm off to work now but I'll blog more later.

Tomorrow is the day. Michael is coming home. As much as we want him home, we wish he could stay long enough to receive the therapy we think he needs to continue to progress. With the help of Mike's therapists, we learned a lot of things we can work with Mike at home. He will also go to an outpt rehab facility starting next week. Everyone will have to visit us here at our house. Just call first because rehab times and days change, so we don't know when he will be here and when he won't. Thanks for everyone's support. Fant Aunts, we haven't forgotten you. We still love you. We have just been crazy trying to get things ready at home and pack up all of Michael's cards at the hospital. It took two days to pack up all of his cards. We have bracelets for everyone too. We love and appreciate everyone's support. Please don't stop now that Michael is coming home.

I want to make sure that everyone knows that our house will be open to visitors.
Words can not explain how much we have appreciated everyone's support and love during these difficult times for our family.
These past seven weeks have been tough on us and we are hoping to get back to a more normal life. Please do not hesitate to call us for a visit anytime.We need the continued support and Michael loves visitors.Thanks again and we love you!

Dear One...it saddens me to see that yesterday was such a hard day for you and your family...they love you so much and, as a parent, I know they feel your pain ten-fold! There is no other way to say it...this really SUCKS! BUT...it won't suck forever! Don't give up, keep going, and BELIEVE in all the miracles God has blessed you with so far and will continue to do. Don't be sad, get MAD and turn that anger into positive rehab.

Do you have meds for pain, Michael? If so, don't be afraid to take them...at least enough to dull the pain...doesn't mean your weak, maybe just smart!

I hear Adrianne made you some of her famous Chicken French today. She hasn't even made it for me, her ol' mom, so she must really love you! And Josh and Jenna are spending the nite with you? Man, I'd love to be there for that!

Well, my adopted kitty, Callie, is staring me down and I think she is trying to tell me she wants some more to eat. She is not going to be a happy camper as she has a test tomorrow morning and can't eat after 8 tonite. She is constantly starving! Which means I should be up about 2 a.m. until I take her to the vet as she is relentless about her food! Will NOT stop talking to me and touching my face (gently). So, I am off to feed my girl but you are in my thoughts no matter what I am doing.

We took Michael to the Batavia YMCA again tonight to use the FES bike and stand with the standing table. The man who actually owns the bike is Ricky Palermo. He uses the bike himself. He and his family are wonderful and so helpful along with the staff at the Batavia YMCA. Everyone just wants to help. I have been so touched by all the kind, caring people we have met during this horrible time. There are so many good people in this world.

I don't know what happened to the other blog, so I am writing here. They have landed in San Diego. They rode the plane with Jerry Lewis. I guess the flight was good. Michael is ready to start his journey now.

We finally are settled in our hotel.It is almost 12:30 a:m. Our hotel was 35 miles from the airport, but we are now only 3 miles from Project Walk.We had good a good flight from ROC to DTW. The flight from DTW to SAN was 4 & 1/2 hours.A big thanks goes out to Patti and Fant Nik for helping with our flight arrangements.

Mike is at the exercise room and Michael is trying to get caught up on his sleep before he goes to Project Walk at 2PM. Joy and I have had breakfast and gone for a walk. San Diego is beautiful. The flights were good and everything is working out well. Our room is very nice and the hot breakfast buffet is great! Papa, the cookies were good. When Michael gets up and gets ready, we may take a ride to the beach. We understand it is 2 miles from our hotel. It was fun seeing Jerry Lewis on the plane. We are having dinner on Father Wheeland tonight. He stopped over to see Michael yesterday and gave him money for a dinner. Thanks Father! A special thanks to Sherie (Leeann's mom). We are sorry Michael wasn't home when you stopped over on Friday night. We so appreciate everything that everyone has done to make Michael's journey a success. Joy talked to a man at the front desk. He wants to meet Michael and tell him about some success stories that he has seen happen with people who have been a part of Project Walk. Thanks to all of you for making this trip possible for Michael and the family.

I wanted to take a moment, as I know this is a blog for Michael, for all the readers to know what an inpiration my sister and her family have been to me! We have grown up in a very loving home and as all sisters do, we have our disagreements. But time and miles have taken our relationship a little further than I would have liked. This tragedy in our family has brought us closer and I could not be more proud of Cherri, Mike, Michael, Matthew and Kelsey as I am today. What this family has had to endure would never have been imaginable in the past. Your lives will be changed forever and you are truly better people for having gone through such a tragedy and not let it take you down completely. Families have to stay together in time of needs and times of turmoil. You truly have a bond that we should all be lucky to have. Even though I am 1600 miles away, you are in my daily (hourly) thoughts. I know Michael is strong which will make him more determined to beat this challenge. I love you guys!

It sounds like they gave Michael a good workout today. He says he is tired and should sleep good tonight. I guess they really liked In and Out Burger (Thanks Melissa and grandma B for the recommendation). The only problem was the first burger came with mayonaise. Now he knows he has to request no mayonaise. It sounds like they are going to be eating there a lot. As my husband put it, "It was pretty cheap."

Well here we are on day 3 of Michael's journey. Another great breakfast buffet! I can't wait for Matthew to get here. I know he will get his money's worth. By the way, for the record, Michael called his mom at 6:42PM yesterday on both her cell phone and the house phone. He did talk to Kelsey, and she told him Cherri was talking to Barb. (We hope Barb is doing well with her recovery after hip surgery. We wish she could be with us for her recuperation. She would get lots of laughs. Laughs are better than tears!) We have the record of these calls on Michael's cell phone. He will call his mom first today after therapy. We can't wait for therapy today. Michael works so hard and is accomplishing so much. I think gramma and I will have to move here, so Michael has a permanent place to stay when he comes out here. Maybe we could do a fund raiser to buy Nanny and Gramma a house in San Diego.

Mike, even though we come to Rochester from Tucson and you leave for San Diego we won't take it personnely! We did enjoy our couple of visits with you and Matt. I'm glad we got to go out to dinner with you and Matt and Michelle and enjoyed meeting Josh and Rachel. I know you did enjoy the pictures of San Diego and LaJolla we showed you so kind of knew what to expect and how beautiful it is. I know we also talked about the second visit to San Diego and how we can be there to help. You already were talking about your second visit and you hadn't even left yet. That shows how positive your outlook is. We were in Albany this weekend with Uncle Jim and Aunt Barb. We had a great time but I have seen enough rain since we got in New York. I complain about all the sun in Tucson and all the clouds in New York. Can't seem to find a happy medium. Anyway enjoy that beautiful San Diego weather and we will talk to you soon. I am so happy that you are exactly where you are supposed to be...what a blessing. You may walk out of there, you know. You are well on your way, it seems! I feel so connected just having you here in California. I think the earthquake was just for you...we're giving you all we have just as you are giving your all to us! (Glad you liked In/Out Burger.) I do hope you get to go down to the harbor and relax while watching all those rich yachts out there and seeing what the other half lives like.

Nanny, it sounds like your mission is to supervise EVERYONE! You seem to be the only sane one in the bunch! I do feel a real bond with you! Not that I'm sane, cause I'm not really alot of the time! If they prove to be too trying, come up north...I have an extra bedroom.

Michael had acupuncture this morning, and once again I was the designated one to remove the pins from his scalp. It's really not hard! Joy and I are on our to the shops at the beach. We are skipping out of rehab today. The boys will pick us up after rehab. Today is another perfect day in San Diego. We are having lots of laughs. I hope they have as many laughs next week when Joy and I are back home. We remain very impressed with the work that Project Walk does. We have met other clients and heard their stories. Michael seems to be ahead of most of the patients. We only need to get rid of the tone he has in his ham strings and then we will see lots of good things happening. He is working very hard to relax. He is a real winner!

Hey Micheal,Mike,Joy and Nancy!!! How's beautiful San Diego treating you???? Project Walk sounds pretty impressive. I truely believe in different relaxation techniques and deep breathing. When Rob had surgery at the Cleveland Clinic they taught him some relaxation techs before surgery and also gave him a CD to listen to.. It still works. Listen intently to everything they tell you and work like hell then get to the beach feel the sun in your face and breath in that ocean air!!!! It sure sounds like you've had quite a week so far...Jerry Lewis, In and Out Burgers, Nudes, and Earthquakes.. Sounds like your all turning into real Californians!!!!What's next??? Your all in our hearts and prayers!!!

Michael sounds very enthusiastic about Project Walk. I hope he gets to meet Jamie from the "Jamie's Recovery" video tomorrow. Michael's therapist at Project Walk sounds very encouraging. He told Michael that if they could get rid of Michael's spasicity he believes "The sky is the limit for Michael". I hope I don't get into trouble with Michael for telling this. He gets upset when we are too optimistic. I do believe though.

Kelsey, Matt, Michelle and I ate dinner tonight at Aunt Kim and Uncle Scott's house. It was good. Kelsey and I went down to the beach after for the concert. My husband's cousin Johnny was also playing his guitar and singing beatles songs by Abbotts. We didn't know until recently that he was my husband's cousin. Hey grandma, how is he related? Oh well, it sounds like things are going great in San Diego. Keep the prayers coming.

I have been working lots of OT the past two days (doing bus routes for next year in Greece) and have been away from the blog. You will be glad to know that it took me about 45 minutes to make it through 2 days of blogs -- YOU GO BLOGGERS! That is so cool that Michael has so much love and support from so many people. With so much heartache in this world, it certainly warms your heart to see an outpouring of love and support for such a special young man. I'm so excited to hear all the positives about Project Walk (yuck about the pins in your head though -- ouch) and that you are all enjoying San Diego. It truly is a beautiful place. I hope you can make it to the San Diego Zoo if you are able to and get to feed the giraffes. They are awesome. Thinking of all of you and keeping you in my prayers. Keep up the good work.

Your mom will be here soon.She would have been here if she would have had the time off from work.She has been a great mother during these last 4 months.She has continued to work,be a mother,a wife, and a motivator.She has been there 24/7 for you.When this is all said and done, Mom will meet you at the top of the mountain.

We went to KoKo's for dinner. Michael had salmon, Mike had a steak, Joy had prime rib and I had chicken. The price was right. We were going to take Michael to the ocean, but the van was acting up. I hope it works better today or that another one is available. Michael remains very optimistic and loves the hard work at Project Walk. We are hearing good things! We can't wait to meet Jamie today. Hopefully, in the near future, Michael will be the inspiration for someone who has a spinal injury. We are looking forward to another hard day of work for Michael at Project Walk. We are so glad to be with him on this journey. We are learning techniques that we can use when he gets home.

Our van has transmission problems, but we made it back to the Hotel.
To Uncle Scott Spade would you fly out here and fix the tranny in between fixing our van in Rochester That needs a radiator and ac condensor?I can't wait to get rid if these vans. Call me and let know.

You and your wonderful family continue to amaze and inspire. I just read your Dad's note to your Mom. How beautiful- I once heard a quote that said "the best gift a man can give his child is to love it's mother". Your Dad just gave you a gift. I wish we could all be there on the mountain for that wonderful mother and son moment. I know all your hard work will get you there and your Mom will be there waiting with open arms. You are truly blessed with the parents God gave you.

Everyone is welcome to the mountain with us. I am not sure what mountain it will be. I always loved "The Sound of Music". Perhaps we could all climb the Alps with Michael and go to Switzerland. I picture the fants dancing around all of us singing, "Climb Every Mountain" with their petticoats now that I know they are such fabulous singers. It might be pricey to go all the way to the Alps. We might have to find something closer to home. I am looking at the hill we always sled on in Durand. Any suggestions?

I just wanteded to say congrats on finishing your first week at Project Walk! That is so exciting that you were sitting against the wall with your legs spread apart- wow, this place is already working miracles because you could not do that before you left! I just love hearing all the improvements you are making. I hope you all get to enjoy an amazing weekend together! Get to the beach and get out and see some beautiful sights!!! I love all of you and miss you so much- can't wait to see you when you get home and I especially can't wait for CHIPS FOR BLISS!!!!! Another good day. Michael had acupuncture and then 3 + hours of therapy. Jason, the lead specialist was the one to evaluate him and then was to assign him to another specialist, but he is keeping him as he is so impressed with Michael. Once they get the tone down, there will be no limit to what Michael can do. Michael is working right now on relaxing and stretching out his legs. We went out for California pizza. Actually, it was pretty good. Joy and I went in the hot tub. It is so nice. We hope to get to the beach tomorrow, as it is a free day for Michael. I'm sure he will spend some of the time doing his exercises. He has come a long way in only 5 days. I can't even begin to imagine what he will be doing by August 16. We have talked to many people who have been to Kennedy Krieger, Shephard and some other places, and they all feel this is the best place. We are fortunate that we are able to be here, as I'm sure that in the years ahead all the spinal specialists will be using the techniques perfected by Project Walk. We have met a woman who is starting a Project Walk in Florida. We may be able to spend our winter in Florida.

Hi Mike. I heard about you from Leeann's Mom (my sister). I hope you had a good day today in San Diego at Project Walk and I'm so happy you got to meet Jamie. I just looked at the u-tube video and it's so amazing to see his progress. I want you to know that I am praying for you, thinking about you, and most importantly that I believe in you. I know you can DO IT. The mind is stronger than the body and from what I've heard about you, you have an amazingly strong mind. G'nite and take good care.

Hello San Diego and all you wonderful inspiring people,

Been reading the blogs everyday to keep up, and all that I read about you, Mike, puts a big smile on my face. Just sitting straight on the floor with your back to the wall and your legs stretched out is outstanding in just 1 week of therapy. I am so glad that you like this place and it is doing so much for you. Project Walk can also be called Project Believe, because it is truly the right place for you to be. Just finished watching Jamie again on his video, and by the end it leaves me with pins and needles in my skin and tears breaking through in my eyes. Just 10/20 years ago, no one had hope for anyone with a spinal cord injury. They had not met Michael or Jamie and all those determined patients and therapists and doctors yet. You are all changing the direction of medicine, following God's lead, and look where you are now. In sunny San Diego, hopefully away from the nude beaches. You do not need therapy on your eyes. HA HA Wou0ldn't it be wonderful to work in a field that promotes so much satisfaction to the staff?

I can't wait until my own Joshie ( he hates me to call him that ) arrives with your Mom and Kelsey to straighten everything out regarding the nude beaches. I don't think we can count on Josh though. He is too much of a normal Male. Anyhow, I will keep on jogging to you all just to be a pest. I will see Josh today for a short time before he takes off for the sunshine state; the fire ridden state; the earthquake state; whatever. I am thinking of you, and praying for you all the time. Thanks so much, Cherri, for explaining 'tone' for me and all of us. I'm sure there is so much more involved with these kind of injuries than any of us can imagine! It must be so hard to have to live with that all the time. Michael is the one who has the physical pain, but being a parent, I know the emotional pain a parent goes through when their child is hurting! I'm so sorry!

Michael is so blessed to have so much support and such a loving family. Not everyone has that! You have all motivated each other. You are a great mom, Cherri. You must have instilled something in Mike to make him this strong and determined!

I am glad Michael got outside today and a chance to enjoy the California sunshine. I am looking forward to seeing how Project Walk works with him. I feel so out of control here in Rochester. Last night talking to you sounds like a repeat of the last 7 days - happy - upbeat - positive - and hopeful. Can't be a better attitude to have. All of us here can only go by how you and your Dad sound and what you tell us and so far it's good. Last night we were at Corey's graduation party and Lisa caught me walking away and walking back and forth and she KNEW who I was talking to. It was a great party and she wished you were there. Can't wait to see what the next week brings you and how much more you are going to improve. As the family crosses in the sky you must be looking forward to see your Mom and sister. Matt, Michelle, and Kelsey along with Aunt Aunt Janet and Uncle Bob are coming for a cookout today and we wish Mom was here too but maybe if she gets done with work early she'll stop over. Wish you guys could be here too. Love you and will talk to you later.

Thanks for all the encouraging words from the East Coast. Today is another beautiful day in Southern California. Do they ever have a nasty day? Michael had a good night. He is working on stretching in the room with dad, but will come down by the pool in a little while to get some sun. Patti, I think Michael is all set on snacks unless you can get ice cream in Josh's suitcase. Only kidding, we went shopping yesterday and have ice cream, cones and Klondike bars. We hate going home and not being here for Michael, but we are confident that the next group to arrive will do great. By the time Michael comes home on August 16, we should all know the best techniques to use to help Michael with his recovery. We have learned that it is most important to be patient and gentle. Michael needs to teach himself to relax and let his ham strings loosen up. No more hard stretching. We have also learned that he needs to be out of the wheel chair as much as possible and on the floor relaxing his legs. When he gets the tone relaxed, he will be able to go to the next steps, whcih will be steps towards walking.

I am taking a break from my paperwork to check out the blog. It is much more fun than work. I can't wait to get to San Diego and get a Klondike bar. One of my patients gave me a list of places we need to check out in San Diego. She talked about Seals beach where the seals come right up on the beach. I think Kelsey will get a kick out of that. Mikey, it sounds like you are doing great at Project Walk. Their website is awesome and I was really intrigued by the way they describe the various levels of recovery. Your patience and determination will get you to your goal!! I miss you all and can't wait to hear the stories of your adventures in SanDiego from Gramma Joy and Nanny. Louie took me for a ride yesterday and I got to see the billboard. It is awesome and it gave me the chills. "Chips for Bliss" is really cranking now and the next two weeks is going to fly by. I just caught up on all the blogs. I'm so happy to hear things have been going so well for you in San Diego. I have to admit, some of these stories are better than a good stand up comedian! I don't know what made me laugh harder the seeing Grandma naked story (I can understand how that could leave a scar for life) or the hair. Keep up the good work and enjoy your next "round" of family/friends there to support you. I can't wait to be there on the mountain with you. I just hope your mom doesn't invite the geese to join us. I mean come on, if she's going to let them sleep on your bed what's next? Ha ha, Cherri, your sense of humor is awesome. Well, WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA to "mom" and the rest of the entourage that made it here today. I know the gramma's must have hated leaving, but I'm also sure they don't mind one bit making room for your mom, etc. They will be rooting for you from NY...and so nice that they can, at least, picture what you are doing and where you are at.

I can't believe the progress you seem to have made in one short week! And, as the others are saying, if you need to stay to 'finish the job' maybe that's what you should do. It might be cheaper, too, to just stay put than travel back and forth. But, knowing you and your family, you will make the decision that is best for everyone in the long run.

Well, it's only a little after 8 p.m. Wondering what you are doing and imagine you must be exhausted in the evenings after your workouts. Hang in there...you are AWESOME. I honestly don't think there are many people in your situation that would be able to continue day after day to fight as hard as you are doing and never give up!

Hi MIKE! So good to hear that Mom and Kelsey made it to San Diego. I just talked to Gramma Joy and she and Nanny had a really hard time leaving you and miss you already. I hope that Chips for Bliss raises enough so that you can stay there as long as it takes!!! It sounds like they really know what they are doing and you are in the right place. I'm sure with all of us that love you and "believe," you would have enough volunteers to stay with you for the next year! Put me on the list! Keep up the good work, your determination will pay off! I thought we would get him here and just be able to start working on getting Michael walking. Unfortunately, I am not a very patient person, which is what we all need to be. The therapists are working very hard to get Michael's muscles to loosen up because to try to get him walking without doing this is pointless. His muscles will just work against him. It is going to be a slow process, but I BELIEVE that with patience we will get there.

Oh yeah, Kelsey and I sat by a woman on the plane from Minneapolis to San Diego who came to Michael's fundraiser at Waterstreet. Isn't it a small world. She was just someone who grew up in Buffalo and was touched by Michael's story. She has two autistic children and felt she needed to come. Michael has touched a lot of people. I hope he uses this in the future to help make a difference in other people's lives. I think there is a reason for all of this.

Unfortunately, I can't believe that there is a reason for such an attack on a human being.Michael will overcome this tragedy, but it will take time.He is determined and has learned how to relax in the short time he has been here.Michael, I am proud of you.

We are having a hard time today missing Michael and the rest of the family and also missing San Diego, especially the sunshine. Mike, Cherri and Michael wanted us to get bumped and stay the rest of the time with them. We tried and almost got bumped on to a later flight and would have gotten a $300.00 voucher towards our next trip to San Diego. We promised Michael we will be with him on his return to San Diego and will stay as long as needed. It sure is quiet without our Bliss family. We know Matthew and Michelle are looking forward to getting to San Diego.

Michael worked hard again yesterday in rehab. Once again, they focused on doing a lot stretching and getting Michael loosened up. They then put him on a machine to help strengthen his quads and gluts. After these machines, they hoisted him up onto a motorized cross trainer. They have some amazing equipment. In the evening, we have been putting Michael in the hottub.

I am sorry to hear about Leeann's and Sherie's dog. I know how hard it is to loose a pet, especially so unexpected.

Megan, I sure do hope your skunk friend didn't leave any babies. yuk. I am glad Mama moved out of the garage.

We are sure missing all of you! We hope that mom, dad, Josh and Kelsey are taking good care of you. In a way I am sorry that your legs keep popping up all night, because I know it keeps you from getting a good night's sleep; but I understand that it is a good sign. It shows that you have lots of movement in your legs. Now we just have to challenge that movement. I went to the Greece Chamber of Commerce meeting this morning. Please everyone mark your calendars for the Greece Walk that will be on November 9. They will be raising money for the Michael Bliss Trust. Hopefully, with these next two fundraisers, Michael will be able to return to San Diego for more intense therapy. Keep working hard. We are praying for lots of good things to happen in the next 10 days!

Good morning, dear Mike...wishing you a FABULOUS day...filled with positive rehab, positive feelings, and lots of love and laughs.

Before I go any further, I want to tell Sheri how sorry I am about her beloved dog. That is so heartwrenching and I still grieve over all the wonderful pets I've had over the years. They are so special and give so much love. Find comfort in the wonderful home and love you and your family gave to your sweet pet. They truly are family members and their deaths affect us always.

I really appreciate, Cheri, your in depth accounts of what Michael is doing and accomplishing in SD. It really helps me, as a 'layperson,' to understand more of what is going on and just what Michael has to go through. I'm sure you are all just chomping at the bit to see your young man walk. When he does, and he will, it will be all the more wonderful.

May I ask why the other rehabs in NY didn't know how important the relaxation and breathing are? And if you would have known that, would Mike be farther along now? Also, Nanny mentioned Mike's legs popping up at nite...are those the spasms? And when will that stop? There...those are my questions of the day. If I offend anyone by asking these questions, please let me know and I will stop. I guess I'm just trying to understand all that I can.

I just wrote a blog and it totally disappeared before I could submit it. What is that all about? I understand Barbara Sullivan asking the questions. They are the same ones we all have. We can't look back. We need to be glad that Michael found Project Walk. I believe this is a new frontier for spinal injuries and soon it will be accepted all over the world. Project Walk has many clients from other countries coming for help. I hope someone can explain the legs popping up. I don't have a clue of why they do that, but I feel it is a good sign. Hopefully, someone with knowledge can tell us why this is happening. Now a question for Michael - Are you having as many laughs with mom, dad, Kelsey and Josh as you did with us? I have a feeling you are, but under different circumstances.

Hey Mike, Week #2 and it sounds like it's as successful as Week #1! Project walk sounds like a blessed place. We're so happy your there and so glad to read the blogs from your mom, dad and the grandmas. We think of you all everyday and pray for you and the gifted people workig with you. Hope your also enjoying sunny Cali cuz Rochesters the same as usual hot and muggy one minute then rainy and muggy the next! Talk about a small world, not only do I work with Jackie but Sherie (Leeann's mom) is one of my best friends. I'm lucky to have such caring friends and from reading your blogs Mike, you have wonderful people in your life too! I'd love to say we'll see you at Chips for Bliss but we're going to be out of town. So glad that everyone got to their destinations safely.  San Diego sounds wonderful, both for the sunshine/weather and for what Michael is accomplishing in Project Walk. We could sure use some of that sunshine here and maybe something similar to Project Walk here in Rochester.

Sometimes its difficult to know just what and how to say things--no one wants to offend anyone but we do have questions. Thanks Cheryl for understanding all of us and answering the questions. Sometimes I feel myself having negative thoughts -----like Nanny said you need to keep positive--I work on that all the time. I really want to say " what the ------" but I try very hard not to let it in. I am just very happy that Mike found this place and has this opportunity--theres no way you can stop now---alot of people "out there" need you--you can be their eyes and ears to make people aware that more can be done to help people with your injuries. I can't even imagine the people that have been left behind--its too hard to think about. We need Nike to find out about you--"just do it"---thats you Mike--you are going to do it and make a huge difference. You know most of us just sail through life--but not you---you will make a big impact !! I just can't wait---but I know I need to be patient. Appreciated your call when you landed Matt to let me know you and Michelle were ok yesterday. Wish we could be there with you all but will be the next trip out. Lynn got a call from one of managers at NuLook whose Mother-in-Law is donating 5 or 6 World Class Poker Tour Poker Chip Sets to the Chips for Bliss raffle.Her son also has a severe spinal cord injury which he received in the Service and they plan on being at the fund raiser and hope to meet you. It is truly amazing how people pull together with support and whatever help they can give when a crises happens. Mike I miss you but I know Project Walk is the right place to help loosen up those muscles so that the physical therapy can channel the muschles to move correctly. Enjoy all being together as a family and learn, learn, learn so we can help when you return.

Maybe when your walking again, you could start some kind of program here in Rochester that would make people with spinal injuries aware of Project Walk. Did any of your therapists at Strong or Clinton Crossings know about it?

Your Mom's exlanations of your symptoms is so helpful. They are all things I never realized that people with spinal injuries went through. They have to be so difficult and annoying to deal with, but your strength and belief have carried you this far, and I know things will continue to get better for you.

I need to visit the blog more...I have been thinking of you all and glad to hear all the stuff that Mike is doing. It's funny that Fant Nik wants Aunt Kim Spade to clean her house...Fant Nik just needs to assign jobs to the gremlins that live there. The kids probably all sign up at school to be line leader and board washer...just continue that crap at home. Seems easy to me. I need to know from Fant Nik when she is coming back to work. I lost her number so I can't call her and she told me she moved so I don't know where she lives anymore. This is the only place I know where she hangs out. Fant Kim really needs to slow it down a little bit - she does so many unique and exciting things - laundry, shopping, typing, ironing, petting her kittybabydog or whatever oscarbubs is.

Michael worked hard again at Rehab. They did a lot of work today trying to loosen his hamstrings. They are preventing him from getting his legs nice and straight when they stand him. Today they put his back against his wall and put his legs out straight. They then put a flat heavy object against the bottom of his feet. The wall and the flat object his feet were against were parallel to each other. They then had him do curls and rows. His hamstrings got nice and stretched for a few minutes. We are trying to improvise the same thing in the room tonight except we don't have the equipment for him to do rows.

We also got him a tube to float in in the pool. It was nice seeing him enjoy himself a little and be an active participant instead of a spectator.

I wanted to tell Laureen that she needs to come here especially with how far she has come. They do a lot of focusing on strengthening and getting you to the next leve. Not to mention, it would be a nice place for your parents, Geoff and your sister to come to R&R. We are definitely getting Michael back here ASAP.

Hello to all of you,

I haven't written too often lately as I have been all caught up in looking for a new (old) car. Mine was totaled by insurance company from the flood.

If I have it right, it was Sherri who lost her dog. I hope I didn't name the wrong person. It just feels awful to lose a dog who has been with you so many years. "A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself." Unconditionally. I have a beautiful picture on my e mail of a dog and a little boy saying night prayers. I look at it all the time. I love that dog and the look on his face. I wish I knew how to send it on this blog, but I am clueless.

Tomorrow is your 10th day at rehab Mike. I am anxious to hear all the things that you are going to tell your bloggers when you come home. I know that you want to stay, and I wish you could do that, but I do know that you will continue to go back until you achieve your goal, AND YOU WILL ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL! I'll bet you get a lot of help from Josh, and all of you can teach us at home a few things. Have a nice and relaxing week end, as relaxation seems to be the key to the miracle, and it will happen. The more that I read about what you are doing in rehab, I reaffirm my belief that you will walk again. Be patient and learn to relax those muscles. It will happen.

Oh, Josh, I hope you are doing well and I know that you are being a big help to the family. They may have to legally adopt you after this trip. But I am still going to be your only Gramcracker. Golden Grandchild!! I wish I could see you more often. You are growing so beautifully handsome. At least you will be after you grow hair again.

Are you taking good care of your 2 brothers, Kelsey. They need a strong woman like you. Only kidding -- I bet you are giving Michael lots and lots of love and support. I know that your Dad and Michael were waiting for you to come, and now, with Mat there , you are all together again.

I don't know how I didn't mention that Mike and I got to meet the famous Jamie from "Jamie's Recovery", yesterday. He is a very kind-hearted man. He did ride a motorcycle to Project Walk yesterday. I was telling him that I would be very nervous about him riding a motorcycle after breaking his neck less than a year ago. He explained that while he was in the hospital, his wife said that if he ever walked again she was going to get him a motorcycle. He said that motorcycles had always been a part of his life prior to the injury. Of course, when he started walking, she had to get him a motorcycle. He said it actually has helped him with his core balance. Sounds great, but Michael won't be getting a motorcycle. It would put me in the nuthouse.

Hi Folks, Well here I sit another morning writting a blog to all of you and it's raining AGAIN. I am beginning to think all this rain is for me and Uncle Bob. I apologize to all. I am convinced when we leave on Monday to go back to Tucson it will turn beautiful in Rochester!! I am happy to hear Matt and Michelle (I spelled it correctly this time)are there safely. Now you are all together and that's great. Words cannot express how everyone has reached out to your family. It proves that there are far more good people in this world than bad. It seems like it went so fast, but then again it seems like forever since we've seen you. After today, enjoy your weekend off. I hope you're seeing as much of San Diego as possible, it can't be all work and no play. How was floating in the pool?

Gurt comes home tonight for the duration of the summer (what's left of it) before heading back to Mercyhurst and Jenny leaves in 12 days. Not that I'm counting, she is. The house will be so quiet when their both gone. What do you thing Mr. Gurt and I should do with all of our free time?

REASONS WHY SAN DIEGO IS BETTER THAN ROCHESTER:
1. Even the name is better. San Diego is all exotic and foreign sounding. Rochester sounds like a yawnfest.
2. San Diego is in California - known for sunshine, beaches, tans, Hollywood. Rochester is in New York - known for high taxes and bad weather. Swear to God, it was in the paper this morning, our taxes are second only to New Jersey (another armpit of a state)
3. Let's talk about governors. California has Arnold Schwarzenegger - Republican. And who's gonna mess with Arnold "I'll be back" Schwarzenegger. We had Elliott Spitzer who used tax dollars to hire prostitutes and now we have Paterson, who all we know about is blind and him and his wife cheat on each other. Nice!!
4. Senators - don't know who they have in California, but gotta be better than Hillary - right!!!
5. San Diego has the ocean. Rochester has Lake Ontario, which you are not allowed to swim in because the bacteria level is too high. Eww!!!!
6. You can surf in San Diego. I guess you can collect bacteria for a science project in Rochester.
7. The weather. I think this one is self explanatory. Maybe they get an earthquake once in a while, but we have blizzards and excruciatingly, mind numbing cold every single year. My mom was actually in an earthquake once outside of LA and yelled at her cousin to stop shaking the house. Is that even physically possible?
8. Michael Bliss is in San Diego, not Rochester. AWWWW! I bet you didn't even think I could do mooshy.

Today is kind of a frustrating day. Mike woke up this morning kind of grumpy. He was up a lot during the night with his legs jumping around on him. His quadraceps are definitely looser, but his hamstrings still want to control the show. He was very frustrated today and angry at therapy. It is hard to watch. He really wanted to be further along at this point than he is. Unfortunately, until we loosen up his hamstrings we have to be patient. His acupunctuist said that if his hamstrings loosen up, he will walk. When Michael gets frustrated, he may as well not even go to therapy, because the anger gets in the way so much. When he is relaxed, he loosens up pretty good. It is sooooooooo hard to deal with all of this.

I'm so sorry that today was so difficult. I hate so much that you all are going through this. You are dealing with such a heartbreaking situation that you have all faced with such grace.

I know Mike will walk again. We all know that he will walk again. This horrible thing has happen for a reason and I know that does not make it any easier at all. I wish we knew what the reason was. Someday I hope we will know. I can't imagine how hard this has been on you all. I know that it is only a small comfort but please know how many people love you and your family. We pray for you all everyday and will be here every step of the way.

I know today was difficult but tomorrow will be better. I'm glad you feel like you can share your frustrating times with us. Sometimes it just helps to talk about things. We are all here for you to lean on.

Mike-I'm sorry it was rough today in rehab. Next week will be better. You will get back to Project Walk again very soon and you will walk again. You are such an unbelievable person and have come so far. You just keep going and know that we are all here for you.

Hey, all of you Bliss people. Do you have 2 new sons, called Joshua Bliss and Mitch Bliss. Maybe Michelle Bliss is a new daughter also.

Two weeks are gone but even though you were frustrated today, Michael, and it was hard to think of all the great stuff that has happened to your body this week, tomorrow will open up with sunshine and new bridges to cross. I BELIEVE it and so do you. No one thought this time in San Diego was going to be easy, especially you. What I have learned from you by all these blogs is that PATIENCE is a big part of the process. In Rochester, you did not know that RELAXATION was so important for your muscles . The blogs by your mother keep saying the same thing. It is so easy for us to give advice , because we don't have to do what you have to do. I think that if you have a bad day, you have the right to be angry. I would also. Even Jesus got angry at the sellers in His temple and turned all the tables over and spilled all their stuff. I am sorry that you had to feel like this but it is only temporary. Hopefully a break this week end will be just what you need. In fact, as long as Mitch is there, it might be time to go to the *@$^><{]$## beaches. Sorry Cherri.

Cherri, it has been a long road and it is so hard to see your son suffer. Someone would have to hold me up when I would see the pain that my son would suffer. I hope that you all go on a BLAST this weekend.

Mary Rice, I don't know you, but I am so sorry for the loss of your sister. Sisters are such special people - so close all your life -- and then to lose them. I will pray for you and your family tonight.

Joshua, I read the blog your mother wrote and I hope you call her Sunday as she requests. She has been in so much pain from this nerve thing, that she decided to go to the MD and get a shot, which she is told is painful. I don't mean to scare you but hearing your voice would mean so much to her. Uncle Ricky told me you called him today and he was so happy to hear your voice also. I love you GOLDEN GRANDCHILD.

Just a FYI -- my brother-in-law has been having several falls and has been in the hospital this past week. Rick and I are going to see him in Niagara Falls on Sunday. I doubt if Patti will be able to go because of her painful hip -back - leg. Anyhow, my family made an appointment with one of the neuro-surgeons who operated on Kevin Everret. They really liked him. His daughter lives across the street from the doctor's office nurse. Who knew? What a small world!! I thought that you would be interested in that bit of info.

Kelsey, are you having a good time. I'll bet that you are the one in the family that keeps everyone laughing. What a great job that is.

Everytime I read I get teary eyed, I just cant believe how far you have come. I know there are a lot of trials and tribulations but you are soo incredible. I am so proud of you. I miss you and cant wait to witness myself how far you are coming. Nick showed me last night your video of you crawling..again..I cried. I just love you Mike and I truely BELIEVE!! You have so much wonderful support and your parents/grandparents/brother and sister (and Joshand Michele) are so lucky to be experiencing with you all this in California. My mom, Raina and I went shopping yesterday and we saw a quote. She read it and as I was reading it she said, that is perfect for Michael and I agreed with her. It said, "Every day may not be a good day, but there is good in every day". How ironic that we saw that the day you were having a bad day! Not to mention after how your day ended, it's even more fitting. Every one has bad days no matter what they are doing, it just makes us appreciate the good days that much more. So, I hope this is a good day for you and that you guys are enjoying some fun in Cali.

Patti came over with her pool man, and he worked on the pool. It's in much better shape. He'll be back on Monday to hook up the vacuum. Where does Patti come up with all these helpful people? We are anxiously waiting to hear from the West Coast for an update on today's happenings. When we last talked to our loved ones out there, they were at the ocean. We can't wait to hear all about their day and how Michael did today. With so many people praying and keeping good thoughts going for Michael, this has to have a very happy ending. I know we sure feel so much better today than I did when I went to bed last night. We will be working on baskets, etc. tomorrow for "Chips for Bliss". We have so many wonderful donations. It will be a fantastic event. Did Gramma Sullivan have anything to do with a package that arrived at my house for Michael today? It's from Tennesee.

I’m sorry to hear that your day yesterday wasn’t as you had hoped it would be, but look at how it turned out. What wonderful accomplishments you made and look how you were able to turn things around. What happened to you could not be more unfair and should never have happened. Anger, frustration, sadness, etc. are all feelings that you are going to have, and they need to be validated. You have every right in the world to have those feelings and so does your entire family. It is important that you honor those feelings, but don’t let them take over. A very good friend (one blessed with extreme healing energy) shared these words with me at a very difficult time in my life and told me to repeat them whenever I was feeling overwhelmed. Mary Rice, I'm so sorry for your loss. I never had a sister and always wished that I had one. All my friends had sisters and became so close with them when they grew up (They mostly argued before that) It was heart-warming to see what great relationships they were. Our plane lands at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. We don't want to come home but are looking forward to Chips for Bliss. We hope it is a big success to get Michael lots of time at Project Walk. I wish everyone with a spinal cord injury could come here.

Hi Everyone,

It is 2:15 Monday afternoon, and I JUST NOW ABOUT 1 HOUR AGO, heard from Timmy about all the wonderful things you have been doing since Friday night. I had not been able to open up the blog on Saturday or Sunday. I was out again looking for cars with Rick, and spent time on the internet looking also. Sunday, we went to Niagara Falls to see my sister's husband, Uncle Bernie. He is the person who is going to have surgery this week by one of the doctors who operated on Kevin Everett. So I never opened the blog until now, after Timmy told me about your miracle.

It is truly a MIRACLE, straight down from above, after only 2 weeks rehab in San Diego. I am still shaking about it, especially after you had a bad day on Friday. I hope the video is able to be on this blog, so I can see it over and over again. As soon as I finish writing to you, I am going back to the beginning and watch again Jamie' s miracle.

I am so glad that you all were able to be at Jamie's church and home yesterday. The two of you together had to be very emotional for all of you. Even though I am late, I will say prayers for Jamie's son
to have a quick recuperation.

Michael, I believe that you were the first to start to BELIEVE. It caught on fast and every other blog I read shouts it out to the world. We are all praying for you, Mike; and all the Bliss's also, to continue to be strong throughout this huge endeavor, the Super Bowl of your lives.

What amazes me most of all, is how fast you pulled out of your slump from Friday. The determination and the strength you have gave you the MIRACLE of taking STEPS in the hot tub and also crawling on your KNEES. I am so proud of you and of all your supporters. I can't wait to see this.

It is 2:50 PM now and I am going to continue to search for a car. Have another wonderful day, everyone. I hope you got your feet in the Pacific Ocean. I want to know what it felt like 'cause I will probably never see it myself.

Just back from Project Walk. Michael worked hard. He stretched for 1 1/2 hours. He was able to abduct his legs (bring his legs out) by himself. He has not been able to do this before. We don't know if it was because he didn't have function or if the tone prevented him. We're very pleased. Michael is on antibiotics again for a UTI. It is always one thing after another.

Good news from CA! Keep up the good work. Even with a UTI you're still kickin' butt! I'd be out of commission for sure. You are an inspiration Michael! Can't wait to see the video but I don't get stuff like that on my cell. Hopefully it can get posted to the site soon. Have a great Tuesday. Chips for Bliss is coming together my friend. We were working out all the details and there was a lot of discussion about "the blow up man". If he gets too crazy Aunt Kim and I will keep him in line. LOL!!

I am so proud of you, Michael, abducting your legs. That must be so hard to do. Tomorrow will be another day - for you to excell. They will be sorry at Project Walk for you to leave. I'll bet they just about beg you to come back, because you will be their next MIRACLE. I am jealous of all those who with you, because they are witnessing a MIRACLE.

By the way, is it Fant Kim who wrote about the phone numbers, the movie times, and probably newspaper articles ? Well, there was an article in the D & C on Sunday about the Olympics that I somehow threw out and I wondered if you still have it.

Josh, Tuesday is Tommy's 42nd birthday. Maybe you could say a prayer for him. If he could understand, I know he would be very happy that you are in San Diego with the Bliss's.

Just loosened Mike up and it took no time at all. I think things are looking up. All the stretchers out there who have had three weeks off, I want you to know that the stretching is easier. Don't Fret.

Wanted to leave a blog, but can't really think of anything to say. Really, I have nothing. Absolutely nothing. I'm trying to think of something, but still nothing. Oh, I know, I forgot to tell you that on Friday night, we were driving to the Red Wings game and passed your billboard and there was a rainbow coming out of it - well probably not actually out of it, but it looked like it. Fant Kim, I have to tell you when Grumpy was very sick last year, he told me that he was going to try to send me butterflies and rainbows. I think the rainbow you saw was a sign from Grumpy that everything is going to be good for Michael. I have been seeing lots of butterflies. We are missing Michael so much and hope that everyone is taking good care of him. Gramma and I were fighting over who could do things for him when we were in San Diego. This has been a long two weeks for us. We will be glad to have everyone home, but we know that Michael will have mixed emotions about returning home when there is so much for him to accomplish. I think he has come a long way in a short time.
